Hello from Newbie

Hi All,

After 3 years of ownership I'm parting with my 05 Fabia VRS, which I've enjoyed since collecting it. In June next year we are expecting our first baby and I've been strongly advised the fabia will be a bit tight on space with our new arrival. I've moved up within the VRS family to an 07 Octavia VRS diesel, collected it on Sunday and after a 250 mile journey home felt very familar with it, got an average of 52mpg which I was pleased with. First impressions I'm loving the improved handling over the softer set-up in the fabia, which I felt let it down a bit. Although I'm not overly impressed with the headlights, they are poor, I think they are so bad the alignment must be out, I can turn the dipped beams off with no visual diffence!

Can anyone clarify the diesel engine model in an octavia vrs, as I've seen this model advertised with PD and CR engine. Also I noticed the oil is a little low, is 5W30 correct for a variable service interval?

Any help much appreciated.

Nick

Welcome to Briskoda.

The vRS came with a PD engine to start with and a CR one later. You'll have to check the engine code to know which one you have - and it will influence the oil you use as well:

Must say, we manage child transportation with our two Fabias (just about) but we'll definitely be getting something bigger next time!

Thanks for the info, pretty sure I've got a CR engine, it drives alot smoother than the fabia. The manual just states the oil must be to the VW507.00 oil spec as its on a variable service. In the skoda wallet there is a leaflet which talks about variable servicing and states Sheel Helix 0W30 is recommended for variable. Although reading that post it appears some people question the variable and revert back to a fixed, which is interesting.
