Lamin-X

Featured Replies

So I've just got my Lamin-X out of the packaging and it looks really fiddly, I ordered 28" x 12" which I was told was enough for both lights and both fogs but unless this stretches a lot I can't see how it will manage to do both.

Is there anyone local to me in Dartford who would fit this for payment? I'm not so great with applying stuff like this and I don't want it to look tacky!

Post in regional section

I used it for both my headlights and white parts of the rear light clusters, although I bought two different sized bits

I fitted mine myself and have loads spare, Next time we meet ill give you some fog light sized bits, The fogs are the hard part ;)

It's not that hard to do Luke.

That said, I did my part tint on my tail lights and my foglamps indoors after removing

the lamps. I'm very happy with the results though and it seems very durable so far.

I used a 4inch by 12 inch piece for my fogs, but I have a little left over, (Enough for one more foglamp...)

And an 8inch by 12 inch piece to part tint my rear lamps. (Just on the clear sections. )

I would have needed more than that for post facelift rear lamps as the white section is bigger.

It does stretch a bit but not loads. I made a cardboard template for the rears first and once happy with the fit

I cut the vinyl on a flat surface and didn't fully peel the backing off until I was happy with the positioning.

The fogs done and ready for refitting.

Well that went ****, I got it fitted OK but under the skin it's as if it got dirty with **** off a carpet or something, it was all misted and blurry but the lights were brand new, cleaned and dried beforehand. I knew something would go wrong. I'm a fussy **** and it just looks awful, maybe it looks OK on the car but right now I just wanna rip it off and take it somewhere to be done by a professional tinter.

I've fitted Lamin-X to my mk4 Golf's headlights, which is much harder than the Fabia. The fabia's lights are pretty much FLAT and also have no curved edges.

Give it a go, it's really not that hard :)

just a few tips:

1) Lamin-X won't stretch, so make sure you have enough to cover the light(s), you can't stretch them to fit!!

2) Use a hairdrier to heat up the Lamin-X so it's much easier to work with.

3) Cut the Lamin-X to shape of the headlamp first of all.

4) Once you've done that, heat up the LAmin-X before peeling the backing off and mould it to the curvature of the headlamp. It will make it easier to stick on once you've done that.

5) use lots and lots of the water spray on both the lamin-x and headlamp surface to allow you to wiggle/slide the lamin-x into position.

6) press all the bubbles out working from the middle to outside.

7) Do not worry about seeing cloudiness in the lamin-x after you've fitted them. - the cloudiness WILL go after about a week to two.

8) See point 7!!

Any other questions, just ask :)

The mistiness WILL GO after about 2weeks. The glue needs time to dry properly. Just leave them as is for now. THEY WILL CLEAR

  • 2 weeks later...

Howdy, quick ressurection of this post and dipping my toe in the Fabia world. :giggle:

Lamin-X are currently offering free 2nd class delivery on orders over £15 and if you enter 'xmas2010' in the discount code box you get 12% off.

Update: They didn't. Lamin-X claim they need to be on the car when it's sunny and it can take 2 months to go with regular use but I don't want to fit them to my car because they look absolutely awful and tacky.

Sounds like you got a dodgy batch, the small bits I fitted on my DRL's were fine from day 1, below are a couple of pictures of a member's car with the headlamps covered in subtle tint!
