I have just checked my oil level before going on a long journey next week and im running quite low. This is my first new car and also first Diesel so not sure if this is normal or not.

Anyway, my question is, is this oil going to be ok for the next 6 months before my 1st service is due? Ive checked the manual and it needs to be VW 507 00 which this is

My car was put on variable servicing when new in June of this year.

Also, the oil that is remaining is pure black. Is this normal for a diesel? Ive always had petrols and it was always a light brown, almost beer colour?

Definitely top it up to the correct level using the VW507.00 spec oil (any brand will be ok as long as it is 507.00 spec) and yes, the oil in diesels soon goes black so don't worry about it.

Oil consumption will settle down to minimal after you have covered a few thousand (10k?) miles.

Thanks for that. Ive only done about 5k so far so hopefully will settle down once it gets a few more miles under its belt
