Boost gauge rattling

Featured Replies

Just fitted a boost gauge to my VRS. It works fine and reads a max of 0.7 bar on boost. It seems to vibrate or rattle when on full boost - the guage can be heard 'buzzing' even though it is secure in its pod and not moving. Any ideas if this is correct, or is the guage faulty??

is the gauge new? mine tends to do it but its second hand so i'm assuming it's the insides and its seen better days.

mines hisses on full boost, still reads correct and all that tho

That to me sounds like you have the piping fitted incorrectly where have you routed it?

My boost gauge is smooth operating.

as said my gauge does not make a sound and its about 4 years old lol and seen a lot of boost

Pipe is routed from A pillar thourgh the dash under the bonnet and connected to the FPR pipe as per the guide on pimpmy skoda. It works fine, just hisses/rattles on boost. Shall have a play with the vacuum hose today and see if its that. Want some better stuff than it came with anyway.

i run mine of the top of the d/v

Where have you mounted it to? I fancy getting one on mine but dont want it ott :)

where exactly did yuo run it from?? I am not that knowledgable with the VRS engine - spent my time playing with 8v Vauxhalls and 6 cyl BMWs up to now!

if you look at the bavk of the engine and see the oem d/v take the 4mm pipe of put a t peace in and one bit goes it to d/v and other in to gauge it might help

i will post a pick when i get home as silly work pc dont like photo bucket lol

The needle in mine rattles a bit but no hissing, that suggests you have a vac leak.

My gauge quietly buzzes too when the boost rapidly rises. It always has, but obviously the increased boost levels of a remap make it more obvious.

Get a NoBuzz fitting maybe. This explains it: http://www.newsouthperformance.com/tubing.htm

Mine just T's off the FPR line. I have a spare vac port on the manifold, so I might try and use that at some point.

My old gauge was silent but this one has seen better days to be honest :giggle:

Bodge, mine's T'd into the spare outlet on the manifold along with the DV and it's fine,

More of a rattle than a hiss. I shall run a new vacuum hose anyway to check it, as it was a bit on the short side - refused to pay £15 for a length of hose from Halfrauds at 7.30pm last night. I will also try and borrow a gauge off a mate to see if its faulty or not - if so, it's going back.

Bodge is on the right track, I think it's to do with the pipe being to big you need to reduce its bore size down.

I'd try the no buzz t piece tbh.

the plastic T-piece that is feeding the pipe to the gauge needs to have a reducer in it.

a lot of them have a brace fitting in one of the legs to reduce it down.

if you dont have one fitted in it then there are ways of reducing it. ;)

drop me a pm if you want help

Either the no buzz t-piece or cut the supply pipe and join it with a really thin bit of pipe which acts as a reducer..

Dont suppose you guys stock the No Buzz T piece do you?? Im only 10 minutes away from you guys if so!

Same place as mine is T'd.

Used to run from the FPR but recently relocated it as was trying to sort a cure for a slight hesitation. And relocating the pipe fixed it?

Found the problem - gauge is knackered. Went to Halfords and bought a new gauge to test it - gauge works fine with no rattle on my plumbing, so my gauge is going back. Cheers for the help anyways.

I've fitted a new gauge this evening and my hissing noise has gone!

The gauge did fall to pieces while taking it out so that could've had something to do with it
