Best front pads for a VRS?

Featured Replies

Whats a good front pad to use?

And no one say EBC yelows or reds for that matter or else im going to scream!! long story!!!!!

I take it theres only ferrodo ds2500 left!?

Got mintex on at the moment but had red stuff (sorry) previously with no issues

ds2500 by along way imo

I've had no issues with Green Stuff  I try not to use my brakes though as its wastes fuel :giggle:

ds2500 by along way imo

except the price !!

How much are they now ??

ds2500 by along way imo

Just got standard pads at the mo but I can vouch for these  and thats what I will be fitting when there needed.

I've had Mintex Xtremes, and the bog standard Pagid and Textar pads in mine.

To be honest, they've all felt pretty much the same!

Which may be an indicator that they are all the same anyway, as they are all part of TMD Friction. http://www.tmdfriction.com/en/aftermarket/brands/pagid

I've got the Textar and Mintex ones on now, and a set of the Pagids ready to go on.

The things that made the biggest difference to brake performance were the Brembo HC discs. Since having them they have been badass!

I'd love the Ferrodo's, but don't have any complaints about the standard pads so can't justify the expense right now.

I run EBC red stuff pads on my bike, but never had them on a car.

Just get the best you can afford I'd say.....

ds2500 for me too,

cost 117inc for my brembo gts so should be less for the octavia caliper, not too badly priced in my opinion

oem is all good until you really put the brakes through some hard graft then they fade really bad

ds2500 dont fade and bite like a bitch from cold a big difference from oem and well wortht he extra £££

p.s mike your not driving hard enough lol

p.s mike your not driving hard enough lol

I won't deny it

lol protecting that front bumper lol

Using standard Mintex I got from Jabba for £40, with no issues after 4k miles. Xtremes were recommended but made of unobtainium these days I am told

lol protecting that front bumper lol

Damn straight, not many VRS's out there with a bumper with no scrapes :giggle:

Next time I'm gonna go for standard pads. The brakes were superb with these. I currently have Red Stuffs and they have no bite whatsoever. They're not even any good once warm! Don't like them at all

reds stuffs dont get great reviews, greens are good on my mk2 golf but no good for a heavier faster car.

standard are not good for spirited or track use, fast road/semi track pads like the ds2500 or hawks are a massive improvement over the standard pad.

Thats the same problem that i had with the yellows, not even as good as standard ones the braking inprovement when i out the standard ones back on was huge! lol

Ive sopke to EBC tech guy, i think he was called BOB1

Anyway he said the reason why they were rubbish is because i didnt have the same yyellow stuff pads on the rear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lost me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So to anyone that hasnt got EBC pads, dont!

The reason i ask about pads is i bought these Yellow stuff pads and they werent any good but ive always used Pagid Rs pads on the cars ive had before but they are over £220 a set which is a bit high so wondered what else was out there at a good price

ebc pads are crap green yellow or red all pants imo

green cant use on our car as they do feck all

the reds and yellow req alot of work to get them to temp for them to work and even then there rubbish in our cars

they do okay in smaller cars but i will never ever use them again

as for they not working because you only have them on the front just shows what a **** company they are lol

standard pads = good pad for a small amount of spirited driving

ds2500= good for normal fast road and track work

So i think ill try ds2500 then!

That seams to be the only other option and seams to work from what you guys say

I have mintex extremes and they are very good for the price. I have a set of Black Diamond Predators to go one when the Mintex die as I have Black Diamond combi discs up front. But in no rush as Mintex doing the job.

I don't really understand why EBC yellow gets such polarised reviews.. I have them and they are great, bite well from cold and stay strong even when stinking hot, pretty kind to discs too, they don't give a hint of material transfer onto the disc even when abused.

The ones I have are quite recent, I believe they have changed the compound somewhat, so maybe peoples' bad experiences are with older ones?

I have the tarox pads from awesome.

Tried green-stuff and they were poor.
