Mass Oil Usage? Any idea?

Featured Replies

Been using lots of oil ever since i had an oil change from JKM... i then had some stuff done to car and asked to get an oil change done again.

Its slowed down slightly but im still using 1 litre or so every 200 miles...

I cant keep buying this 5w 40 stuff. Its expensive haha.

I was first thinking turbo seals, but im not putting out loads of black smoke. Passed an MOT smoke test fine yday...

Any other idea? As far as i can see, there no leaks...

Thanks.

A confused Craig.

Man that's a lot of oil - mine hasn't used a drop in a few thousand miles... What mods you had done?

it's standard lol. Runs fine afaik. Never had the low oil light come on... Just the red warning car is going to die one.

But I stopped driving after that...

Lubricating oil smoke is usually blue, sometimes white when the turbo's about to go or just gone (but if the seals go it's more like 2, repeat two miles per litre).

I think you may have a leak. Check

1) Cam cover tightness.

2) Oil filter tightness.

3) Drain plug tightness.

Just thought: the only time my wife's car has EVER lost oil was when the oil pressure sensor went - basically the oil just poured straight through it!

Somewhere else to look, at least...

That does sound like high usage..

For the past 40k miles i've never had to top up..

Hmm.

Im hoping its not the turbo seals...

This is what the SMIC pipe looked like:

Does that look normal? Or turbo seals leaking?

Is there any better way to check the seals?

You could try taking the undertray off and leaving paper or an old sheet under the car. Have a look at the undertray too, see if it's gunked up.

Engine tray is off, nothing on it that would suffice the oil usage.

that ammount of oil in the cooler is normal really, get in from teh CCV, doing the elephant hose mod will reduce it.

Get your head right underneath and check your sump gasket and turbo feed pipe.
