Liquid tyre chain

Featured Replies

I know, I know.

Same old boring subject, but having unsucessfully searched for winter tyres, and with the weather forecast looking mighty bleak and wintery right into next year now, I did a bit of alternative searching, and found this:

http://www.sprayontyrechain.co.uk/

Might be worth a little gamble as a get you unstuck aid?

Available on Amazon for a tenner.

That looks too good to be true.

However it does state it only works for a few miles, and it should only be for emergency use not for long journeys. The website looks American as it mentions tires, not tyres.

I would probably invest in some snow/auto socks as they last longer. Winter tyres are even better (but much more expensive).

That was just a sample website of a random stockist that I found.

Did a google search and found some fairly favourable user comments stating that it does in fact work, but as you rightly say, only in snowy and icy conditions, and wears off as soon as you hit the tarmac.

Amazon notified me they'd sold out of the stuff just 40 minutes after placing a tin of it into my 'shopping cart''.

Story of my life.

I'm back on the snow socks trail again now, but having difficulty finding the right size ones (205/45/16) for the Fabia tyres

I've seen it used in the US (WA). The highway patrol carry it.

It seemed to work great on ice or compacted snow but was it useless on anything else. As soon as you hit bare roadway, it starts coming off the tyre.

That is all you'd surely need it for though?

Never going to replace chains/socks/winter tyres.

Not sure about that. I was behind the car that had been sprayed. I was in a 4x4 with winter tyres and he had the edge on me on sheet ice. As we went on to some fresh snow over ice it didn't seem to help him at all. He was all over the road and lost it a couple of times, but I didn't even need to chain up.

Some people over there carry silly string which is surposed to work too.

:D

P'raps I should spend the day pinning drawing pins and super glueing elastic bands to my tyres?

Laughing aside, I have heard of people wrapping elastic bands around their shoes for a bit of extra grip.
