1.9 TDI shakes when accelerating

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I have had this problem for some time now but it was nowhere near as bad as it was this morning. The car started absolutely fine but as soon as I pulled out of the car park and tried to accelerate it shook like mad. At the traffic lights the engine was also shaking when idle. I pulled over and after restarting the car the shaking was less and when the engine warmed up this completely went away. I drove 80 miles later today and its perfectly fine.

I bought the car just over 8 months ago and only started noticing mild vibrations relatively recently (2-3 months ago) when I accelerate in 5th gear and when the car is not yet completely warmed up.

I have tried reading on other forums and some people seem to think it might be a partially blocked fuel filter which makes it worse at this cold weather. Should I replace the fuel filter?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex.

Yes, it feels like the whole car is vibrating like crazy when I try to accelerate. If it was the dual-mass, would it improve when warmed up? Now I have the problem each time I use the car, but once warm it all goes away.

yes it would get better as warm's up but would still be there abit it will only get worse

It could also be ice developing in certain areas.

As I said, now it happens all the time. The engine vibrates both when idle and when I try to accelerate. I read somewhere that it could be the glow plugs as apparently they keep glowing to aid fuel combustion until the engine is warm enough and if some or all of them don't work this could cause the symptoms until the engine warms up. What does everyone think about that?

Anyway, I am taking the car to a Skoda service station tomorrow. Will see what they find. Hopefully its either the fuel filter or the glow plugs as both are no more than £20.

Thanks everyone for comments.

Does it shake when you rev the engine hard at a standstill and in neutral?

When I rev the engine its better. The higher the revs the better actually. In fact thats the only way to drive it before it warms up by reving it at least over 2000. I openned up the bonnet to see whats happening today while it was warming up and the whole engine was shaking inside! When hot, everything goes away.

Any ideas?

Hi All,

Just an update. It was the injector wiring loom or at least thats what the dealer told me. The car is all good now except it looks like I'll have to replace the cambelt :wonder:

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions.
