Door wont close in freezing conditions

Featured Replies

Having a problem with doors not latching shut when closed (mainly driver door) due to freezing weather. Tepid water does the trick which is fine when at home but not when you get to work or shops and door wont close again.

Tried treating the lock with de-icer and WD40 last light but same problem this morning.

Should I be treating the door handle or the latch on the side (which I lubricated) of the door.

Any good preventitive actions or is there a seal allowing in moisture that shouldnt. Did not have this problem last winter.

Cant find a schematic on the internet as to how it all works to try to figure it out myself.

All suggestions welcome...Thanks

Hello Kevm,

I've got the same problem on my Superb. Sometimes it's just the drivers door and occasionally both front doors. I've had this for most of this cold spell. Yes warm water sloshed up the end of the door works but I've found that this does the job but also wets the catch and ends up freezing even better. I bought a 12volt hairdryer which I received last week, this has worked reasonably well until tonight when it produced a nice shade of orange from the element and had to be unplugged quite quickly before it went on fire. I think I'll try and send it back as it wasn't used much and certainly not for any length of time.

So back to square one. Like you I have tried WD40 and lagered the catches in LM grease, but nae luck.

C'mon the summer.

Thanks for that Jeek.

What seemed to work last night was pushing the latch on the side of the door upwards and then pulling the inside door handle........ It may prevent standing outside with a killer hairdryer.

Roll on the summer indeed.
