Skoda Laura L&K - Octavia MKII

Featured Replies

Hi,

Recently my Skoda Laura L&K 2007 model - (Octavia MKII) started having its Steering red light come on when ever i hit a big pothole. This results in full loss of Steering Assist and steering goes very heavy.

On scanning the VAG Steering angle Sensor fault code appeared. My Skoda workshop is telling me they have to change the entire steering rack worth (1600$) in India.

Upon resetting the DTC car runs fine for some time (Last time i went around 1000Km with no problems!!) till i hit another big pothole when light again comes on. Please advice what could be possible solution to problem and how can i avoid spending big bucks to fix this problem.

I have a Maxscan VAG405 reader which can be used to reset the code, but i dont feel safe loosing my steering assist all of sudden while driving as this can result in accident if i am not careful.

Regards,

Piper

I read in some forums that sometime replacing all your fuses can help in eliminating this problem completely. Don't know if that is a sound advice and if i should proceed with it.

The steering angle sensor in your 2007 car is not in the steering rack as it is in the newer cars, it's in the steering column behind the steering wheel.

I would advise changing that first.
