Refixing Skoda Boot Badge

Hi,

Having finally got my Fabia out of the snow after a week on the drive, I opened and then slammed shut the boot. What I first thought was a stray bit of ice falling to the floor turned out to be the Skoda badge.

There seem to be two locating pins that fit holes in the boot panel, but the back of the badge appears to have some sort of contact adhesive on it.

Would anyone have any advice for the best way to re-attach the badge? The car is only 3 months old so I'm tempted to take it back to dealer, but if all they will do is use some spray glue then I may as well get some and do it myself - ready for next time it falls off......

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Hello Eldo, yes...refitting your badge is easy. First make sure you clean the back of the badge and the paintwork on the boot area thoroughly. Remove all traces of the old adhesive. You then have two choices. You can either use double sided body tape to secure the badge back in place, or use an adhesive suitable for bodywork use. Double sided body tape I find actually more troublesome but works ok. I use something called 'Siroflex Mightly Strength Polymer Sealant' rather than the tape. This is suitable for car body shop use (it states this on the packaging) and 100's of other uses too. It is available in clear or black, and even white. You can buy it online for £3.75 per cartridge and it keeps well for ages. Get it here....

Some local stores may keep it too. If using this sealant adhesive, use only a small amout making sure you completely seal the centre of the badge around the locating lugs into the boot. Be ready to remove any excess from the surrounding paintwork. Good luck.

I have some really great D/S tape I picked up on 'fleabay' and would normally use it for this kind of thing, but in really cold weather I think as Estate Man says, use a specialist adhesive.

If mine were to fall off I would buy a new one to re-fit as I have noticed mine has the obligitory white water ingress mark which these badges seem to be prone to.

I've had my rear badge replaced under warranty Horkin. They did it while I waited but had to order the badge. As you say some of these badges do suffer water ingress damage. That badge and an 'A' pillar cosmetic seal are the only issues I've ever had with our car in two and a half years of motoring. No other failures or adjustments of any kind. In forty years of motoring this is the first time in my life I have had a car that hasn't caused me any grief. And I've had some pretty impressive vehicles over the years too, but they just don't match the Skoda reliability I've found.
