Fabia vRS Estate Questions

Featured Replies

As many of you know I'm still looking for a job after finishing Uni so the thought of getting a new car is a long way off.

However I was in my local dealer today booking my car in to investigate why my front tyres are wearing heavily on the insides and I spotted a vRS estate in black in the showroom. I'd never seen one in person before and it really looks good. From most angles it looks better than the hatch. I'd need the estate over the hatch anyway as I have a fishing kayak and I've seen how the hatch bars don't go into any holes they just clip round the pillar which I don't want. The boot is massive which is a big plus and there's plenty of leg room for me and a passenger behind. Talking to the salesman and at the moment without the VAT it's about 14k.

So I have a few questions which are still niggling me.

  • Will I get bored of it? - The DSG is good but is it too lazy? I've always has manuals and don't want to be bored of the car within a week. Also after a test drive (of the hatch) I liked the power but I only blasted up a bypass I did so couldnt really tell how much in-gear grunt it had compared the my vRS. Was good off the line though.
  • Fuel costs - What's it like on a run and in town. I take it that it always has to have V-Power to get the best out of it? I know it's not going to match the old vRS for fuel economy but I really want a fast petrol and if it's economical all the better.
  • Any common faults arisen? - I know it's early yet but are there any?
  • Pictures please! - I've only seen the estate in black and in race blue are there any pics of other colours and wheel/roof combos?

I thought I'd set this thread up as something to look at when I'm in the position to buy one and to give myself a target to achieve.

Thanks in advance

Martyn

White looks good.

Pictures first...

In answer to your other questions:

DSG - putting an auto box has divided opinion here on Briskoda and in motoring journals too. I love the fact the vRS comes with DSG. It means I can spend more time looking at the road, planning my next overtake and not having to worry about stirring the box and making a hash of it. The vRS comes with paddles so if you fancy a bit of cog swapping yourself, you can.

MPG - on my run up to the east coast and back I've managed about 36 mpg, mainly at national speed limits with the occasional bit of leadfootedness coming out of roundabouts and on overtakes. Please be aware that I've only had the car for a week and still only has 600 miles on the clock. I expect this figure to rise a bit as the miles pile on.

Faults - my drivers seat has developed a creak and there's a rattle somewhere around the top of the driver's A pillar. I will get these investigated when I'm next at the dealers.

Thanks guys for the pics. What about other faults? I had a quick look over on SCN and it seems as if the engine ha it's problems some have been replaced? Hadn't heared about that on here yet.

if you read it all the way through you realise its the thread title that is wrong, with many members jumping on the band wagon. the article if refers to states that VAG are looking into alternatives to the 1.4TSI due to the cost to produce it and not due to problems associated with it.

f you think about it the VAg 1.4TSI has been out since 2005 on a very wide range of vehicles. if there was actually a problem, not only would VAG have fixed the issue by now rather than continue producing faulty engines (if they were ever faulty at all). They also wouldnt have won awards for the engine every year since 2005.

Im currently looking at a fabia vRS estate myself

Fair point about the engine. It's been about for a good while now
