Alloys - are they.....

Featured Replies

Coated ( silver colour coat with a clear finish )

Just Alloy with a clear finish

As they look as if they have a tunred / polished metal surface finish

The reason for the question is the rear drivers has obviously been hit by a flying piece of gravel due to the weather and it has bruised the surface of one of the spokes - the small round area ( approax 5 mm across - near the side edge of the spoke ) has turned white.....

I believe the faces of the spokes and rims are polished alloy and then just lacquered.

The sides and insides of the spokes are painted silver (or grey if you have the optional upgrade).

Your post is quite coincidental as my rear drivers side has also been damaged by a stone and has a chunk taken out of it right on the edge of a spoke.

I'm just waiting for water and dirt to get under the lacquer and it to start to corrode what is already known to be a weak alloy in terms of corrosion

And my Scout's only 6 months old....flipping ek!

I always treat the surface of alloys post wonder wheel cleaning them with Autoglym Alloy Wheel Seal so fingers crossed that will help

I could not feel any surface problems but there was a very very tiny nick on the edge of the spoke.

If the wheels are really that easy to incur rot then it would fit with the only other problem I have found with the Scout and its tough looks and that is the front and rear screens suffer very easily from scratching - even though I am over meticulous with regards rubbish on the screens and under the blades.....my screens look like those of a car 12 months older.
