boost pipe fix with pics

Featured Replies

hey all, not so long ago i fixed this same thing, the pipe connecting onto the bottom of the SMIC popped off completely. so i ordered new clips and new o-rings as ive heard that it could be either causing the problem. weaken over time just.

it was aprox a month ago that i done this, just recently i thought i heard a very slight hissing of air, oh no here we go again were my words lol so whipped out the torch and looked down and could see that the metal collar which sits flush onto the intercooler when connected properly was pushed out about 3-4 mm. at first i didnt think that any air would be escaping but combined with the noise i would occasionally here as wel as thinking the car was slightly down on power i decided to fix it again to ease my mind.

went and found the new o ring and got to work. after screwing the arching liner off and disconnecting the pipe completely some oil started to run out, now it wasnt a serious amount and i dont THINK it s a problem but would like to show yous all just to get everyones opinion :) the intercooler was drained about 3months ago so should be ok. there was oil over the splash gaurd the previous time as the pipe had been lose for some time and the oil was just running out.

this image shows the oil that had run out onto the splash gaurd

this one shows the underside of the pipe and the oil which is around it

and this one shows the oil which is lying inside the pipe. hope you can see it from the pic as the camera on my phone is crap so tried to get some light from the torch.

here you can see the o-ring which i removed and just the torque roll i used to clean the oil up,

i then cleaned the pipe up a bit and put the new o-ring on and the clip. could you guys just confirm that i have the circlip on correctly lol im sure i do as it all clipped in nicely  this time i only lubed the o-ring with a small rub of wd40 whereas last time i put far too much vaseline on i believe which i think assisted with the pipe coming off the second time. :( this time the pipe took much more force to push on so i feel that the o-ring is sealing much better and wont come out as easy this time around.

check the clip please lol :)

AND THIS!!! IT FELL OUT OF THE PIPE!

IMG00059-20110106-1550.jpg

its about 1 and a half times the width of a finger tip, its a small piece of metal if you cant see the pic too well, its quite flexible as in if i bent it a few times it would break. what on earth is it from? :'(

the only thing i could think of was that when the previous turbo blown that its possibly spat something out? lol

could yous please tell me if this amount of oil is ok and if the clip is connected properly as wel as what the metal shard could be? and i also put some cable ties on to hopefully hold the pipe on.

sorry for the poor photo quality, hope you can see everything

thanks for reading

edit: if this is more oil than normal could it possibly be cause by the egr? as i believe it must be quite soiled as there is a small amount of oil which runs out of the small hole on the side of the egr valve. which i suspect is a blow off valve.

A little bit of oil in the hoses is fine, dont be alarmed

Id be alarmed about the metal though, more than likely a bit of turbo if one has gone bfore and they havent cleaned all the pipes out.

i was very alarmed when it fell out, the skoda garage, MSB skoda, which changed the turbo have been very careless when fixing the car, when i first got it and removed the undertray it was completely covered in oil presumably when it all sprayed out when the turbo went, they didnt bother to change that, and when puting the car back together the egr connecting pipe had been hammered i dont know how many times to get it back into to position, it was covered in dints when i removed it to replaced it as it blew apart after they bent the whole thing and ruined it. not impressed to say the least. you really dont know whos working on your car sometimes. would love knowing that someone like you would be working on it

no i am not hitting on you lol
