Caliper wind in tool + clunk!

Featured Replies

Hi

I need to get a caliper wind in tool to change the rear pads on my 2003 Octavia estate.

Looking around there are right hand thread, left hand thread etc. Can anyone recommend one, don't want to spend much as rear pads don't get changed too often!

Also I keep getting a clunking noise from somewhere in the back when I go over speed bumps, pot holes etc. Everything seems to be tight (exhaust, springs, fuel tank) & there is nothing loose in the boot.

Any ideas?

its a pain as you need both left and right for opposing sides, not sure if there is a one for all tool, if there is let me know please!

Looks like its one of the kits then at £35+ !

there is a cube wind back tool you can get that does both sides, for under a tenner on ebay but have heard they dont always work

I did look at those, but they look like they will only turn the caliper with no way of pushing back.

Get a Laser one, I think it's a Laser 1314.

I have one and it does both sides

I used the Laser one from Halfords successfully on mine. Think it was about £15.

Another vote for the Laser one from Halfords, had mine years and done countless rear brake pad swaps.

I also use it for pushing the front ones back in, makes it such alot easier.

Have you checked the rear coil springs completely as if a piece breaks off it can rattle around and cause knocking noises?

Yeap lazer one here to and the rear calipers both wind in the same way!

Just looked at the Halfords website & they do 2 Laser wind back tools. Looks like right & left handed. Which one is it?

I'll check the springs a bit closer as to be honest it does sound more like a spring noise.

Mine goes clockwise/righthanded
