PROBLEM with electric folding wing mirrors

Featured Replies

I have an Octavia 1.6 TDI ELG. 4x4, 2011.mod.

Sometimes when I fold the wing mirrors out again, the left mirror doesnt stop in the correct position, but continues outwards almost a 180 degrees form the folded-in position, weird!

Ever heard of this?

Hope to hear from you:)

I haven't personally encountered this as I haven't used to fold the mirrors in (I just got my first Octy few weeks back and it has this feature) but what I have heard from others and read from the local forum, it seems to be quite common for this to happen during the winter (at least here in the Scandinavia). The most probable cause for this is that ice has been built up in the wing mirror joint which allows the mirror to fold out to far and it gets "fixed" itself after car has been in warm garage or parking hall for a moment so that ice melts.

Cheers,

Lasse

I find that one will not open out at all & it varies each time happens!

Occasionally the LHS one stays folded in, other times it's the RHS stays folded in, so I have to rotate the knob to make them both fold in & back out again.

Why it does it, I'll never know, even my VW Golf used to do it too.

The exact same thing has happened to my car lately. Seems I'm not alone, I was worried I had broken something. Hopefully it'll sort itself out.

Thanks for the info. :)
