CV joint on way out?

Featured Replies

I'm getting a clicking noise now and then and also some knocking noises with some vibration when cornering hard to the right faint noise now n then when cornering hard to the left also. Got a feeling it may be the left CV joint though the knocking is confusing me, could it be anti roll bar bushes? Got no noise when driving or cornering slowly, most CV joints click don't they?

I've also got a creaking from the front right when breaking but only just before I come to a stop, anti roll bar link?

What's the best way to check everything?

cv joints are not meant to click, other than that sorry can't help

I ment they click when they are knacked

Your symptons are definatley around:

CV Joint

ARB bushes

Drop links

Lower Ball joint

You can check drop links by sliding your hand through the wheel and holding the lower part of the drop link whilst someone pushes down on the front wing . You should feel clicking or knocking which will be obvious if faulty. Also sometimes the nut at the back of the ball joint on the drop link needs tightening up

Sometimes the CV joint gets dry so you may find that you can repack it by undoing clips and pulling back rubber gater to expose the joint and regreasing.

Whilst car is up you can check the Drive shaft play

Also whilst car in air check the wishbone lower balljoint's for play by holding wheel and moving up and down and side to side.

Sometime balljoints are difficult to check and you may need car on the ground and get a bar between wishbone and ball joint to rock it

Anyway hope this helps

I'm lucky got a m8 with a pit so should be able to check all that easily thanks :)

pits are great i've got one in my garage at home B)

i had the cv joint noise the other week but only happened when the car was first started and only when reversing left hand down? turned out it was only a dry joint so just repacked with grease and all's good(and quiet) again
