Featured Replies

Well today is the day I plug the furby's rear doors. Whilst I'm there the little

Beastie gets a brand new Bosch S4 battery, K&N Panel filter and general

TLC.

Sick to the back teeth of the damp smell.

But thanks to all topics on here I'm able to find the solution and fix it.

Skoda notts dealer was fairly dismissive on the phone when I quarried the issue

saying that I must expel more moisture than normal when breathing?!?!?î™

May look into PD160 box latter in the year. But the wedding must come first! î—

What size is your battery - large older version or smaller later version? If the latter please post full details of the replacement battery you're putting in.

As usual if I put my registration number into an online battery finder - just tried http://www.carbatteriesonline.co.uk/ - it comes up with the wrong battery! In this case it's listing the Bosch S4008 - and showing it to be 278mm long...

I'll measure it on wednesday and let you know straight away. Think it should be the newest version. Ordered it directly from my local Bosch specialist. Got told S2 S3 S4, chap although flogging me something asked what sort of driving we did. Which is now short distance only and recommended the S4 higher ampage rating and charges quicker. Starts first time on cold start. Will keep all posted via this link as per performance its only 2cm longer than standard Battery.

Hi DRJ

Found the invoice out from Bosch Diesel Centre.

Part number is 574012068. Bosch Battery (S4008) H1. Is how it appears.

When I can peel the keys out the other halfs hand 2 moz I'll measure the dimensions.

It went in without fuss to the standard carrier to be fair.

Thanks - that battery measures 278L x 175W x 190H. I measured my existing battery and it was only 238mm long as far as I could tell (I suppose it depends partly where one measures it but I measured the top which appears to be the widest point). There then appears to be only about 20mm tolerance on the cage over hence my concerns that if I get the 278mm long battery it won't fit. Part of my problem is that I still haven't managed to fully release the cage - only succeeded so far in releasing the clip on the nearside (right when looking at it) and hence can't fully assess the situation. Will take some pictures once I can disassemble further.

Yeah it's a pig to doo. The doors were easier to repair than change battery. If the car was

6 months younger it would have had a flip lid to the cage. There is 3 clips on the battery cage. 1 left 1 right and 1 rear

As you look at it. The left reach down under the air inlet pipe (or remove it) and flick it up. The rear extra long flat screwdriver

And prize away. Not much slack on the wires from the cage so don't pull too hard.

Helps if you have a glamorous assistant to help. Takes abit of wriggling also remember the 13mm retaining bolt

And dont drop the socket like I did. Swine to get back of the under tray!
