burning smell can any 1 help!

Featured Replies

hi every one.

I brought my octavia vrs last year and loved it since, but thought the cold peroid i have noticed that in the morning 5am when i get to work there is a buring smell coming from the rear pasanager wheel. i had my alloys fitted just before xmas and there was no smells back then but there here now. i have had new rear disc and pads fitted (the old ones needed replacing anyway) the week end just gone but there is still a burning smell.

any body got any ideas what it might be?

Sounds like seized caliper, though should not be the case if the pads and discs been changed. Does the wheel move freely when the car is jacked up and the hand brake is off? (Chock the wheels whilst doing this) Is the hand brake seized? Are you carefully bedding in the brakes? Is the wheel hot when you get to work?

Sticking brake caliper?

Something loose underneath, resting on your exhaust?

edit: see above

I have this sometimes. I have heard that it could be road crud being burnt off by the exhaust. Had the car up on ramps and the easiest passage of heat from the mid section of the exhaust would be the rear left wheel arch.

Mine does this, always has never caused a problem that I know of :)

Stopped worrying about it years ago

Mine does it all the time. Given up worrying about it.
