Front suspension strut diameter

Featured Replies

Hi there, this has been asked before but I did search and didn't want to bump a 12 month old topic :)

I am getting some new shock absorbers (KYB Excel G) and need to find out what the diameter of the shock is.. I can't really get under the car as I have an awful back and once I get down there, I won't be getting back up! Has anyone got ETKA and could maybe tell me? I would be so grateful! Thanks!

On an L&K PD140 they should be a 55mm strut.

Don't have a current version of ETKA to confirm on that though.

Thanks for the quick reply!!

Is the diameter build date specific because the options given to me by BuyPartsBy are "06/04>" and "01/07" (the latter is my car)

Don't think so, as mine would fit into the earlier category and mine are 55mm. Went through this a few months ago myself :)

My understanding was that the smaller engined cars (1.4/1.6, maybe 1.9 PD105) had the 50mm versions.

GSF looked up my plate and their info listed the standard part number as 1T0413031HP. Apparently the strut size is related to the first part of the part number. Something like 1K0 = 50mm / 1T0 =55mm..

That's great news, it actually makes sense to me now that the higher powered engines have a heavier duty shock, whereas the smaller ones have a smaller shock.

Thanks for your help :) I'm going to chance it with 55mm

I think that's the general logic (hoping there is some logic to these things!)

If one of the techs sees this I'm pretty sure they'll be able to tell you from the reg plate and/or VIN.
