Future VRS prices..

Featured Replies

I'm really starting to want the new VRS, but I just can't justify a new purchase with current finances and with still 2 years finance left on current car.

How much do you think the VRS will settle at in say a years time? Will the bargain current price have any effect on used values? (sorry to depress new buyers - look away now :'( ) Also are there likely to be many knocking about nearly new, I'd have though most owners will keep for 2-3years at least unless high milers?

Also how likely are skoda going to do VAT-back or similar offer on new in the future? Is this definitely a one off lowest price ever?

I guess the big downside to going nearly new would be losing a years warranty, although some dealers would probably top-up with a year? But having the original owner take the depreciation is probably a good trade-off for that "brand new car" experience. Also I would be extremely cautious about the 1.4TSI out of warranty, especially if VAG discontinue production. Feels like the sort of car to have early in it's life, agree?

Really cant see another VAT free deal. it was only to create an incentive to buy through the recession and for this VAT increase. they are struggling to keep up with demand, so its not like they need the sales

thats good that skoda are knocking VAT off new models that means u can get a new fabia for about 14 grand ish from a dealer, which aint bad

Yup - with all the goodies apart from sat nav and funny lighting options it comes in at less than £14,500...

The 1.4TSI has existed in various VW group cars since about 2007 I think, and I've not heard any bad reports so far (Golf MK5 GT 1.4 TSI being the first I think, and was available in 140bhp and 170bhp versions). Remains to be seen what happens in a few years time though of course.

I can't see VAG discontinuing production any time soon. The 1.4TSI is being used extensively in all VAG-group ranges in a variety of states of tune, with and without the supercharger. They've invested heavily in this engine and the increasing cost of motoring supports a trend toward ever smaller engines.

It could actually end up being as ubiquitous as the old 1.8T...

compared to other small hot hatches, £14K isn't bad, but a not many year's ago you could buy a brand new Golf 1.8 5 door for around 10K demo model. to me it sounds a big premium these days for what essentially is a small car with a powerful engine and slightly lowered suspension.

So what do we reckon for 1 year old used late this year / early next year. 10-12k maybe?
