VAT Free - Do you think it will continue after March?

Featured Replies

I think most Skoda's have been VAT free for a while.

I'm pretty sure it was due to end in July last year and then it was extended until December.

Currently it's now the end of March when this offer ends.

With the economy as it is, do people think that the VAT free offer is likely to be extended again?

Also, does anyone know the approx. waiting time on a brand new Petrol vRS Hatch?

Just approx. number of months.

Ta

Your guess is as good as anyones about the 17.5% discount.

To answer your question around the delivery time of the petrol vRS, i would speak to a couple of dealers, & this should give you a good idea, specially as there is a quoted delay to diesel versions, the petrols are being built quicker.

I do know of a Fabia vRS build date was pulled back from Wk 15 to week 5, because of the deliberate push back of the diesel builds.

Aye - looks like I'll have to pop into the local dealership and see what's what.

So tempted by a new vRS.

Specced one out and once I'd knocked the 20% off I was looking at £18,288 which is a bargain.

It's just I can't really look to buy until around August time, so ordering in March for an August delivery would actually be perfect for me!

Also depends on what they are going to offer me for a December 2006 vRS as trade-in.

I ordered a vRS CR DSG in White with Xenons, reverse parking and auto lights for £16760 in October. I reckon I can get the money back when I sell it 12 months after I get it

I can't see any situation in which Skoda withdraw the discount, it would kill sales.

The deal may not be called 'VAT free' after March but I'd bet a pound to a penny that there will be a 15-20% discount either as a 'VAT-back' promo, straight cash-back or some other system.

Delivery should be about 3 months for a TSi vRS from factory to dealer.

If you want a price for me to supply, please email me the spec you'd like and any part exchange details if you've got one to [email protected] and I'll happily give you a quote.

Just on the delivery side, I ordered my petrol vrs on 20 dec and have had a call saying getting built this week with expected delivery 1st week in march. So for me order to delivery is expected 9 weeks.

Stoofa - I am like you, a change before next winter is possible (or probable). The deals were even better <31st Dec, as prices have gone up & many extra's by more than just the 2.5% mentioned. I was only offered just over £8k for my 2007 (Feb) petrol hatch with only 23k on it. You win some, you lose some I suppose.

Now that is a deal - Tim31 !

Never say never as they have removed the discount from diesels at the moment. I know this is to try to get through the backlog they have on them but they could withdraw the deal on petrols as well. Or replace it with a much lower discount!!!!

Yes, and it has killed sales of diesel cars, so I was half right :)

With the economy looking poised for a double dip, withdrawing the discount completely would be sales suicide!

Not really sure whether the VAT offer is a discount or a permanent feature of their pricing. Its a good piece of marketing.

One thing missing from this thread... Manufacturing and selling cars is a global business so it is very difficult to predict what is going to happen in a single market such as the UK. At a local level our currency has been getting weaker so that means price rices on imported cars such as Skoda. I also would not be surprised if somebody high up in VAG might be thinking Skoda have become a bit too successful in the UK, possibly at the expense of VW or even maybe Audi sales so they might want to address that. From a global perspective the Chinese seem prepared to absorb huge numbers of cars so Skoda factories can push their output towards this and other emerging markets.

At the end of the day it is not "VAT free" that matters, it is what you actually pay for the car or if you have P/X then "price to change". However Skoda choose to promote their products in the UK, I would be inclined to think the net result is significant upwards price movement. With inflation now being predicted to hit 5% this year, that alone means a £20,000 list car such as a VRS costing another £1000. Not the time to hang around, if you have the cash.

James,

I sent you an email about a day ago.

However my mailserver tells me the delivery has been delayed - you still haven't got it.

I'll send you another email, but I'll also send you the same message as a PM here.
