ecu

Just been told that water has got into the ECU and will need a new one this car is four months out of warrenty Skoda are saying it will cost £2,300 how can a seal go on a unit like this what can i do or have anyone else had this problem.

Pretty easy knowing VAG!

They put these units in area's that flood easily (just look at the CCM that is located under the carpet on the passengers side, then when the plenum chamber grommets get bunged up - which they ALL will do, the pollen filter housing 'seal' then fails and lets all the water into the car wrecking the CCM and wiring loom)

Where is the ECU located just out of interest? In the cabin or under the windscreen in the engine bay? Want to check if there is any risk of water getting in.

I have cleaned the bungs before as I had a "flood condition" inside the battery compartment, but as far as I know it never got as far as the cabin and CCM.

I can't help with advice regarding the warranty, but if you do end up having to replace it, you might be able to save a lot of money by going to one of the companies which repairs/exchanges ECUs.

Many useful links and recommendations at the bottom of this article:

If you go this route you may need to find a local independent garage to swap the boxes for you.

We might be able to help you there, if you'd like to give us a call.
