Owners Manual

Featured Replies

I find it interesting that most of the questions asked in this forum can be answered by reading the owners manual.

"Where is the switch for this?" and "How does this work?".

Now this is not a gripe; as it happens, I get a lot of pleasure from reading the threads and trying to assist sometimes.

As I had a 3 month wait for my VRS estate, I obtained the manual from this site and read it, as recommended by Skoda, before driving the car when it arrived.

So here's to you readers and non-readers; long may you post your questions on this interesting and friendly forum.

Regards

Tony ;)

heres an interesting couple of points for you then.

by reading the manual please answer the following questions.

1. how do i play my ipod through the stereo ?

2. how do i install my mobile phone to work through the stereo ?

i am not very good technically but i despair !!!

i got the answers i needed through this forum - not from the manual.

Point taken, tonyfvrs, but the poorly translated manual can be frustrating when it doesn't answer your question.

We ought to have a competition, count the number of mistakes in it.

The manual can also be very vague in places. For instance, the operation of the bluetooth phone system seems particularly vague, especially when trying to use the steering wheel controls.

Logic would dictate that the thumbwheel would be used to scroll through phone lists etc and pressing it to select options. Alternatively I would expect the two arrow buttons next to the thumbwheel being used to scroll through options.

Apparently, neither is true even if you have the MFSW with controls for radio and telephone as I have.

The only way to scroll through lists and select options is through the rocker switch on the right hand stalk, using the button underneath to select options. Even an incoming call you have to use the rocker switch on the right hand stalk to select 'cancel' if you don't wish to take the call, whereas I'd have thought the thumbwheel would be used in this particular case.

The manual doesn't state specifically which buttons should be pressed to scroll through options or select them which leaves the user to find out for themselves. All the thumbwheel seems to do, according to the manual, is raise or lower volume on either the radio or the telephone. I only worked out how to use the rest of the system through this forum!

It certainly isn't the most comprehensive manual ever written.

I fully agree with all the comments above, at least 30% of the questions raised cannot be answered in the manual, especially VRS where it is not entirely clear if it applies or not.

But, how to switch off/on DRL's etc?

Why wait perhaps a day to find the answer when the answer is in the glove box.

But it doesn't matter at all, the forum is great to participate in.

Tony :)

I find the hardcopy manual difficult to navigate

Perhaps it needs a Sat Nav ?? :giggle:

I keep a PDF copy on the PC and then use the search function

So far this has worked well and found the information I was looking for

Tony, I guess it also shows just how much we all need the interaction of our fellow enthusiasts on this site. It's not always just about the book. As you say it is a very friendly place and people come up with some amazing stuff as work arounds for doing this or that. I've learned loads from everyone on here about my Skoda. Good on yer!

through this forum i have learnt a lot of new things that u can't find from the manual. it's not always well explained in the manual so it's better to ask fellow fabia owners

Also, a quickie for the new vRS owners, regarding the manual. Mine didn't come with one, so the dealer picked an owners manual up for me, was just a bog standard Fabia manual I received.

Does the vRS have it's own specific manual or is it all covered under the standard manual?

Thanks

Stu i don't have my vRS yet but on all my other cars the manual is car specific, not model specific so covers everything from the base model up to the top model.

I would be surprised the if the Fabia was any different, atlhgouh I am sure one of the lucky new owners can comment.
