Changing CD/radio to Bolero

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I'm looking at buying either a L&K or vRS 2.0TDi Octavia. It'll probably be around 56 plate for the money I want to spend.

My question is - would it be a straight swop to replace the existing CD/radio with Bolero unit? ie, is de hole de same size?!

Ta!

Welcome to the forum mate, the simple answer to your question is yes......and no! Although the Bolero head unit will be a direct replacement for the Stream ie double din, on a vehicle of that age you may have gateway issues. Basically, you may need to fit a newer revision of Gateway to avoid the battery drain issue the Bolero HU causes.

have a search of my topics/posts and another member Wardy, all will be revealed.

Welcome along.

A-ha, I see all that needed to be said, has been

I've confirmed just this week the details you'll need to make it work, by comparing the setup of both Octavias I've owned. Do a search and look in the Octy II section for threads started by me

Cheers,

Thanks guys - your replies are appreciated.

Quick question though - what is a gateway?! I've searched your posts Wardy but am non the clearer!

Thanks,

Steve

No worries. It's basically related to the car's internal systems, and how different components talk to one another.

Unfortunately one of the side effects of using an upgraded headunit is that the version of the CAN gateway used on earlier cars can't properly support the way the newer components operate, such as the Bolero. As a result it leaves communication to that unit in an 'open' state, which means it constantly draws power, even when the car is locked. Hence the battery drain....

Hope this helps.

Ah, all becomes clear!

Can the gateway be upgraded by anyone who has the Skoda equivalent of VAGCOM, or is it a main dealer jobby?

Cheers.

If you mean recoded, then yes, most things can be done by someone with VCDS, there is a list of these members in the 'stickys' at the top of the Diagnostic/VCDS forum page.
