Looks like we're getting a vRS estate!

Featured Replies

Went for our test drives today. Well impressed by the pace of the vRS; ride was a little firm (to the point where the wife said she didnt want one - thought it was too firm) but otherwise I really enjoyed driving it. Think the DSG suits it perfectly. Wife actually hammered it more than I did which was funny and it did put a smile on her face. When we left the showroom, one of the young sales lads ragged the car down the road as we were leaving and it looked really quick and sounded fantasic (loads of induction and turbo noise with a small mix of supercharger....absolutely ace!).

We then drove the TSi 85 SE and it wasnt the let down I thought it would be after the vRS. It was punchier than the 1.4 FSi we have in our Polo and didnt feel flat at all, rode well but the steering was vague, it rolled about quite alot and the manual gearshift wasnt all that nice (bit like stiring a pudding). Did make me think that the 105 DSG (particularly in Elegance spec) would probably be quite a nice steer though.

Went back to the showroom and the wife seemed fairly insistent on going for a 105 TSi DSG Elegance but we went through the finance and it turns out the vRS is cheaper on the monthly payments because its likely to be worth a fair bit more (and not devalue so badly) than the 1.2. Being the financially concious person she is she can forgive the vRS for its firm suspension for the lower monthly cost. We are therefore hopefully ordering the vRS estate tomorrow (with Dark Chromes, Parking Sensors and Electric Rear Wins). Happy days and cannot wait!

Sorry one thing I didnt mention is that both the vRS and TSi (both 60 reg cars with only 4K on the clock) already had their fair share of rattles; the TSi in particular had a really rattly instrument binicle which was a bit of a negative point. I guess these cars have probably been abused a little more than a customer car would be but has made me think that the build quality probably isnt quite as good as I thought. Still at these prices does anyone really care that much?!

Good job mate. I'm not sure how easy it would be going back to a manual after driivng DSG so long. What colour was the vRS?

From reading your story, it sounded like you had the trousers on for a while, which is a first when it comes to motor buying stories on these forums! :giggle:

If I remember, there are Eibach springs for the vRS. Not sure if they are for the vRS estate or if they help ride comfort (probably not).

Pictures asap

Cheers mate, really pleased with the outcome. Wife dug her heels in, said 1.2 or nothing and I thought she was gonna steal my thunder but once we'd been through the finance options and saw she was gonna have to pay more a month for a cheaper car she soon changed her tune! Its not often that finance works such miracles!!

Car was Race blue with black roof and wheels I think. Looked really good!

Only question we're asking ourselves now is whether to go 36 or 42 months on the finance (and lower the monthly payment still!).

We're gonna be waiting months for it but guess we'll end up with an 11 plate which will be nice. When it comes i'll post a few pics!
