Xenon realignment

Featured Replies

I am in the process of buying a Octavia Estate L&K 2.0 CR and it will come with RHD xenons

Can these be re aligned to point for LHD or will i need to replace them with LHD units

Unfortunately just setting them via the maxidot for tourist will not pass the required inspection

as an alternative can i temporarily fit halogen units for the inspection

I'm not 100% sure on this but I think you will need to get replacement units. On the plus side I don't think you have much promblem selling the RHD set.

No, they can't.

The setting in Maxidot flattens the beam and is temporary for occasional continental driving.

To pass the inspection abroad you will need new replacement LHD units.

I'm not sure if halogens can be used for the inspection but as mentioned above selling the RHD xenon's will cover a big chunk of the replacement costs if you decide to buy new LHD units.

looks like i'm going to have to bite the bullet on this then

any octavia owners on the continent prepared to lend me theirs for the test?

Like that idea but can i fit these when my car is set up for zenons?

i know you can go the other way with an adapter cable

The connectors / plugs are the same.

Some think the wiring loom on xenon equipped cars is uprated to take the additional current required to ignite them.

From what I can tell it's identical to non-xenon cars as its the ignitors that step up the power.

Not sure the auto levelling will work, and of course you won't have manual adjustment on the dash.

If thats the case then i might just put the LHD halogens in for the test

and swap em straight out again and re ebay em and reinstall and flat beam the xenons

as the flat beam will pass the german tuv but not the damn silly BFG lights test

how easy is it to swap the complete headlight units?

is it dealer fit or can it be DIY'ed

Dead easy, it's in the manual...

I can´t see the problem if you just flat the beam out.

The non xenon ones you can do this, it has a small lever inside the housing that goes up/down to change from the " tick" to a flat beam.

The problem is that flat beam won't pass the BFG lights test

Flat beam will pass TUV or MOT but not BFG!!!!

so it's either halogen of xenon LHD lights required

Please explain BFG light test

I seen a Honda Accord and the Opel Insignia and they have, what I consider, flat beam.

Those light test machines do have inside the design of the " tick" beam and the flat beam.

At least here in Portugal.

If you leave UK I think their is a law for how long you can stay out and not be considered someone who left the country and have to change address.

If went to anothert country by car , I would not worry about it.

My opinion

BFG is British Forces Germany

when we bring a car across to germany or buy one in germany

we are required it undergoes a light check if less than 3 years old Full MOT style test if over 3 yrs within 28 days of arrival or purchase

and even though the flatbeam is sufficent to pass tuv or mot it is not for some unknown reason sufficent for the BFG authorities
