105pd cam sensor problems

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Quick story, had a 2004 105pd for 3 years - had a few problems with it.

Engine light came on about two years ago indicating fuel temp sensor.

Sensor changed to no effect but car ran fine.

Then this summer it started either die-ing or failing to start intermittently.

Showed a crank sensor fault, sensor changed and started running ok.

Then before xmas it started playing up again, one indication was that when you put the ignition on the rev counter started 'dancing' as if it car was struggling to calibrate itself.

Then it died solid, took it to local independent garage, they got a auto-spark in and he found part of the loom had been rubbing near the starter.

one wire broken and a number chaffed bare.

Fixed that but still showing cam sensor plus another couple of codes.

cam sensor changed and cam fault gone but other codes still there.

Symptoms now are that turn ignition on there are no codes/warning lights.

start car and it takes 4 turns on the engine to start and 2 codes in the ecu.

cancel the codes with the engine running and they dont come back until the car is started again.

I'll get a note of the current codes tomorrow but anyone have any ideas ??

Garage suggest that the 4 turns is a symptom of the crank/cam sensors not talking to each other ??

thanks in advance

Adbru

p.s. it has 170k and also has been regularly serviced.
