Suspension refresh

Featured Replies

Just been on an awesome cross country drive in my VRS, and got to say if I wasn't in love with the car already, I certainly am now! Fantastic composure and very little roll through the corners, even with budget tyres on- just imagine what it'll be like once I get round to replacing them with decent rubber!

Anyway, even though the basic handling and composure is excellent, at 109K I can tell it's feeling a little tired regardless of the tyres, so I'm looking to do a bit of an overhaul...

Just the various bushes and drop links for starters. Anyone got experience of OEM vs motor factor quality? Any other recommendations?

imo the standard vrs handling is rubbish

so if you think its good you wait untill you upgrade it and you will fall in love big time

took a standard one out today around a few country roads for another member on here and the handling was woeful at best lol compared to the last 3 ive had lol

The standard Octy isnt the best, not even the RS well not compare to a decent German rear wheel drive car lol

But you can do some things to help them along their way!!

to be honest the vrs does handle ok for the road

lol I guess everyone's got a different opinion- It's not exactly a track ready car and wasn't ever set up to be IMO! I've had 5 series BMWs and driven Jags and yeah it's a different type of handling.

So come on then guys, if I can improve over the standard setup what do you suggest with your experience?

just new bushes mate as said not a track day car so i dont think you need 28mm arb kw coil overs r888 tyres just some nice new bushes and some decent rubber and may be some nice pads

A cheap & easy start would be new anti roll bar bushes. There has been a few posts on this recently and i got the 19mm ones from PRI racing. Took an hour or so to change and im a basic DIYer.

Same as everything, unfortunately it really does depend on how much you want to spend.

1 As suggested already - new or Poly uprated Front ARB bushes.

2 New wishbones with new bushes or replace just the bushes for Poly uprated ones or TT Bushes.

3 Fit a RARB if not done so already. Consider uprating the FARB.

4 Fit a Poly Bogbone Bush

5 Uprate the suspension, coil overs etc....

Loads of great info from some expeienced octavia guys on the site re all the above mentioned choices. I have done 1-4 without doing 5 or FARB to mine and am happy with how it feels. Just these opions will transform your car and also not break the bank.

Hope this helps.

One of the few things I dont like about the car is it handles like a barge. Im hoping sticking some polybushes on the farb and dog bone mount and maybe ball joints and fitting a rarb will do the trick coilovers are a bit out of my price range at the moment.
