Tyre recommendation

Featured Replies

It'll soon be time to put some new rubber on the front of the octy.

Most of the tyre threads I've seen seem to be centred around the vrs and the more, Erm, "enthusiastic" driving style.

I do about 22k per year; about 12k of that is a B road to Scarborough, a good deal of the rest is cruising up and down motorways.

Any recommendations for 205 55 R16? The last lot were kleber, no complaints with them. Looking for cheap, long lasting tyres (aren't we all!)

I run Good Year NCT5 ,cheap, good grip, long lasting.Even the noise is quite low.

Thank goodness they don't make NCT5s any longer. They are one of the worst tyres I've ever driven in the wet.

For summer tyres I can recommend Avon ZV5's. 205/55/16 94W @ £65 fitted. Very quiet and good in all conditions though didn't haven't them on long enough before fitting winters to gauge wear rate.

Just realised I didn't give a recommendation in my previous post.

If you are looking at tyres at about £50 each, then the Uniroyal RainExpert are a good all round tyre. Don't let the name put you off - they are good in the dry too.

Take a look at http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyres_For/Skoda/Octavia.htm

I don't know if this brand are available in UK, but I if you are looking for cheap and good tyres I would recommend Barum. I've heard only the best. Made in Czech Republic and owned by Continental. Used to have Barum Brillantis on my Corolla. But I don't know how well they will perform if you need an high performance tyre.

NCT5's have been replaced with goodyear excellence I believe.

I had NCT5's on the last octy. Very noisy, but lasted ages. Not as long as P6000's tho lol. They never ever wear out, but I hate them.

Swmbo has 4 barum bravuris 2 on the Verso. They've been ok so far.

My 130pd use to use tyres like they were going out of fashion!

I used the cheap ones from ATS

Raikon or riakon one or the other i think they were part of bridgestone, but bloody good tyres

Used Barum Bravuris before. They seemed to be a very competant tyre and at a really reasonable cost.

Firstly, avoid Dunlops - rubbish grip and wear!

Secondly, did people just claim that Barums are good!? I had them on the back of my last car, and got Toyo Proxes CF-1 put on the front, which transformed the car. I say transformed, but whether anyone else would consider converting an understeer monster into a mild over-steerer to be desirable...

I'm thinking its going to be Riken Maystorm2 at 50 quid a pop.

Whilst they are a 'Michelin brand', they not that great in comparison to other tyres at that price. Aren't these the tyres ATS are pushing?

One of my mates had these on and thought that the P6000s were better. I've not tried the Rikens, but I wasn't impressed by the P6000.

Yes, that's from ATS.

They got a good review from someone earlier in this thread. Also just noticed that a V rated tyre is cheaper than the slower H rated tyre. Just market economics I assume? H being a more in demand specification?

Good Year NCT5 made in Malaesya are very bad

Those made in Poland are quite good
