No Slider, my understanding, from todays news, is that the whole scheme has been scrapped.

Call me cynical but..........half a million people signed the petition to stop it, most of these probably being middle class, typically Tory voters, plus a lot of the Forests listed were in Tory constituencies..............??

You are correct, my post was made before I saw this announcement.

Doesn't mean that I think its the right decision but it is the will of Parliament and therefore the people (alledgedly ) so I must accept it for the time being.

Let's remember, it was only ever a proposal for consultation, so there was no U-turn.

It has conveniently taken a lot of flak, diverted a lot of attention and energy of 'activists' from other issues.

There was no money saving/making in it, it now looks like the government listens.

Pfffft. Press and public played like a fish. Job done. One Mr A.Campbell would have been proud of!
