Oil Leak.... sorry, I know, it's another oil leak thread!

Featured Replies

Sorry guys,

I know there's a few posts about oil leaks on here for the Octy. But I couldn't find anything that satisfies my scenario.

I'm getting a pool of engine oil dripping slowly from the passenger side of the car, off the edge of the sump guard.

Now, upon inspection, it looks like this side of the car has scraped on something and as a result the sump guard is loose where the oil is dripping.

I don't know the location of the engine components yet, so bare with me:-

- Could it be a loosely fitting oil filter?

- leaky oil filter housing

- oil cooler?

Or something else?

The pool of oil is about a coffee coaster sized circle. This is overnight after the car has been used for the day. But I have seen similar pools in car parks too etc.

Oil level isn't drastically low yet, but it is lower today than yesterday.

Hopefully nothing too serious. It's booked in with a garage for Thursday, but just wondered what's on the passenger side of the car that could leak engine oil.

The previous owner did his own oil and filter changes. (I have the receipts from Skoda dealer for the consumables used.) So did he not tighten something up properly maybe??

Fingers crossed it's simple.

What's the worst this could be? Just so I can brace myself!!!

Cheers

i had a little leak in my golf out the oil filter on to a hoes then down the pass side of the car could be worth a look

If there is under body damage you may of cracked or holed the sump,id top up the oil & keep a eye on it until you can get it in to the garage & see what they say it is.

Could be from anywhere. If it's dripping onto the sump guard and running to the near side. Best thing to do is take the sump guard off and have a propper look. It comes off really easily.

Thanks all, I'll take a further look into this and report back when I've found the locaation of the leak.

Ok, so I haven't had chance to get the sump guard off yet. It's booked in for Thursday to be looked at.

But, I had a look around the engine bay and found some fresh oil where I suspect the oil is leaking from.

I've uploaded a video of the area to youtube. Anyone know what I'm actually looking at here? IT was videoed from the passenger side of the engine bay and the viewing angle stays the same throughout.

Stay with it, I eventually get to some oily looking tubes. Top one of which looks like it's half a tube split length wise!! - Weird.

Have looksee:

Any ideas on what tubes they are? - Expensive fix?

From what I could see they look like breather pipes. I had one go on mine. Not too expensive, about £30 each. Don't buy Skoda ones do an ebay search and get Silicone ones instead.

They can be a bit fiddly to do if like me you've got shovel hands!! You have to undo a few things, including the dipstick tube, which will snap, as they're crap!! But again, about £6 from ebay. If you do them yourself, buy some stainless jubilee clips to replace the stupid clasp thingys they put on in the factory.

Nice one, thanks for that.

I'll have a look into it now.

Ok, so the garage just phoned my wife to say they've found the source of the oil leak.

Annnnnnnd it was a leaky sump plug !!!! :giggle: - Previous owner did his own oil changes...... say no more!

Best bit, it cost us £10 for them to diagnose and fix. Bargain!

Happy Days
