Wife was driving and the steering got heavy and vibrated for 5-10 mins at 70mph

Hi guys,

as above. I asked her whether the road surface was crap. Nope....it was freshly laid road on the M1....

I know one of the CV joints needs doing. The console bushes are in good condition. Both of the rear tyres are being relaced tomorrow due to slow punctures.

But what on earth could make it shudder at such a high speed?

It went away and then she drove the car home as normal for a good 20+ minutes...

The CV could do that. I had a CV on a Scirocco on it's way out a few years ago, and it would snatch at the steering.

Angle sensor I think! Did any warning lights come on? I have a new sensor to get fitted myself soon. The first time the sensor went, I had the radio cut out as voltage went nuts, then the steering light came on and the steering got real stiff. Stopped to turn car on & off, and steering was back to normal, but its very flaky at times.
