Hmm car change itch... only downside still two years finance left on mine.

Could change to new Fabia VRS really pushing my monthly finances and committing to lowish deposit and 5 year finance - (crazy)

Pros - first ever new car! Great car with great discounts at the moment. Warranty.

Cons - Extra costs, extra running costs, still committed to finance for two unwarrantied years (worried about TSI and DSG problems out of warranty.

or:

Sit tight, pay off current car, do some saving and maybe look at 1-2 year old top spec Octavia VRS in a couple of years (sensible)

Pros - Don't pay for initial depreciation, arguably better car? No stress on current finances

Cons - No scratching of new car itch, you only live once etc. Less warranty. Time and patience finding right used car with all extras. Octavias holding values very well, no bargains?

Decisions, decisions...

Just voted without reading the rest of the post...outstanding finance can be a problem.

However, I am putting down all my 'rediculous' spending at the moment to the theory of 'I might be dead tomorrow'. It helps justify it in my head! Haha

I would wait till you pay off your current finance off, then buy a new car

Paying off outstanding finance and trading car in still leaves me £1k in credit. Surely a 06 plate Fabia VRS will have a trade-in of more than £1K in 2012!? Another small argument for waiting...

Also basically any VAT savings at the moment are directly offset with paying off current finance loan.

Speaking from experience as I done this when I was younger (on PCP's) Its not a good idea. You end up getting into trouble if your not careful.

If it was me I'd be worried about taking on extra finance over a longer period with today current climate. I'm already planning on trying to clear the Octavia a year earlier just in case I'm made redundant again.

I would say the fabia will for sure be worth more than £1000 in 2012, I will even stick my neck out and say selling privately with average mileage and condition I'd say you'd get £3000-4000

Depending on your Fabia and my money situation at the time, I'd be interested :). Looking at your situation though, I'd go for a used car from a dealership with good reputation.
