Greenline 2 mpg

Featured Replies

So having read the 1.6 CR TDI mpg thread i thought the Greenline 2 deserved its own mpg discussion thread. So here it is.

I have only just got mine and would like to know what everyone else is getting mpg wise and what is this run in thing they talk about, do I need to do anything in particular ?

Thanks

Hi dont think there have been issues with the fuel economy on the greenline,I have the cr tdi 105bhp and its amazing also I have the old greenline which is the 1.4tdi and this is absolutely frugal, enjoy your greenline paulemillar I love both the fabias I have a real soft spot for the 1.4tdi 3 pot:thumbup:

Hi Paul, well done on getting the Greenline. Cracking motor by all accounts. You don't really need to do anything too much regarding running in your new engine. Just read your handbook on the subject. Drive it fairly normally but avoid constant speed driving, such as with a cruise control, or holding the speed steady on motorways or dual carriageways for long periods as this can glaze the cylinder bores and rings so the engine never runs in properly, and never reaches full power or gives best economy. Avoid trying to get the best mpg's during running in as that type of driving style is not good for the engine. Apart from that don't wring the bol**cks out of it, or labour it at very low revs going up hills or whatever. If you have to do a lot of motorway/dual carriageway driving vary the throttle setting often, alter your speed up and down a bit from time to time and lift of the gas periodically to allow the piston rings to retract into the pistons and become bathed in oil. As the miles go on give it extra work to do (more revs, more load) and it'll be fine.

Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum.

Most of the mpg and living with posts regarding the Greenline II have been put here:

Have a quick look when you get time.

I averaged 67mpg on my first tank (filled with only 3.1 miles on the clock from new) althought the car display was telling me 72mpg.

Hopefully that'll increase in the first 10k miles as the engine loosens up.

Overall I am very impressed with the Greenline II estate I have.

Plenty of space, comfortable and enough performance for everyday use while returning very good fuel economy. Good boot size too.

The only thing I didn't like was the plastic driver controls.

So I had my local dealer fit a leather steering wheel, handbrake and gear stick to make it feel nicer. (like the higher spec Fabias have)

Hi. I've got a Greenline Hatchback Fabia on order. Looking forward to giving our government less tax due to its impressive mpg. Fingers crossed.

I averaged 67mpg on my first tank (filled with only 3.1 miles on the clock from new) althought the car display was telling me 72mpg.

My car display is the same (Greenline 1). Over reads by about 5 mpg.

Your mpg is pretty much the same as mine. I have the 1.4 PD engine. I was at my dealers today getting my car serviced. I was hoping to try out a Greenline II just for comparison. No luck though, they only get them by special order.....Everybody wants one

I got my Greenline II back in October and I live in a hilly semi rural area and my drive to work is all 30 mph roads.

The daily run is only 5 miles to work then back and a short hop in the evening to get my disabled daughter and the rest of my family from work/childcare.

My first engine averaged 54mpg and the new one is giving 48 mpg (could be just winter fuel). In a few months time I will start to pile on the miles as we travel to and from our caravan every week and I will get to use dual carriage ways.

Just drive normally and I find the gear indicator is a bit out especially when slowing down, I change down earlier than indicated otherwise I have found issues with not enough power as the revs are only 1100 rpm.

On the flat my greenline can run at 30mph on spedo in forth pulling only 1200 rpm.

Thanks for the info guys, will keep it in mind. MPG wise, I have done 1000 miles and the computer is showing 63mpg which is a little bit disappionting.(I was getting 50mpg from my old car and the book claimed only 40mpg)

I do hope it creeps up to 70mpg as I would be happy at that. (I would say I am an efficient driver and do all the driving techniques mentioned)

I have found I can get into the 80's on a 30mph run, but on the motorway at 60mph its poor. This surprised me.

Paul, don't worry about the mpg too much at this stage. Your car is still incredibly tight with just 1000 miles on her. You've only done the inital bedding in. This process goes on for at least 5k miles and then some depending how you drive. It will be at least 3,000 miles before she starts to perform as intended and give not only good acceleration, but good mpg. That's a fact. We've all found this to be the case. Also, we are all using winter diesel, funnily enough because it's winter. This knocks your fuel economy quite a bit, reducing it, by probably in your case, 6-8mpg. In summer it will noticeably improve with the summer diesel. Oh, you ecu is still learning in a basic form just how you drive the car and how to best deliver fuel for the first 3,000miles. This also knocks your economy.

Footnote: one other point to bear in mind is to not let the revs drop too much whilst you are cruising. The dashboard indicator lights often tell you to change up to the next gear much too early and you find the engine running too slowly and actually labouring just a little. This uses too much fuel especially when the engine is too tight as when new. Let the engine rev out a bit more and stay in the lower gear a bit longer, you will find it give better fuel economy.

Thanks for that, done about 3k now and mpg getting better. Go the same way to work each day 40 miles round trip and have been using this as a guide. I have got the mpg from low 60's to low 70's so pleased with that.

Have to say though, 60-70mph is no good, 30-40 is where it's at. And yeah, stay in the lower gear longer than it says to seems to be better.

Hi mate, im thinking of getting a greenline just wondering what you thought to it in general etc and what the build time etc was like. Also you said there 60-70mph is no good... does that mean mpg wise (if so what readings are you getting?) or do you mean the cars a bit sluggish...

Thanks Joe

60-70mph is not great for mpg(about 55mpg at these speeds). Slow down a bit and the mpg really goes up. I don't find the car sluggish at all. I haven't been on a long motorway run though, furthest 20 miles.

Build time was 3-4 months.

In general I am happy with the car, seems well built and is well equipped. I am 6'3", and there is enough space for me, more headroom than my wifes A3.

I have managed 80mpg on way to work today but it requires constant focus on not pressing the gas pedal. But the car is capable of it. And that includes 10 motorway miles and 10 at 30mph. The stop start has had no impact on this journey as I rarely stop.

Just completed 300 miles over the last two days using the M6 through Birmingham in rush hour going on day one and coming back on day 2. for both trips the car averaged 72 mpg on the readout, based on the fill to fill figures I have I reckon the real mpg to be 71.

The journeys included the car being loaded with two adults and one teenager size child and an adult size child (I have very tall children) plus a variety of motorway speeds. Where possible I kept the speed to one notch below 60 (it's a good speed for the M6).

The other week I did a 266 mile journey for work using the M6 and M1 and returned 65 mpg at 65 mph.

For info my engine has done 1800 miles, winter diesel? and has to loosen up fully - 5000 miles plus, my run to work 5 miles at 30 mph is now returning 59 mpg.

Yeah see im 6'1" and loved the space in the fabia in general (one of many reasons for getting one!). Generally im doing 100 miles a day on rural a-roads so doing about 55mph on average and then once a month doing a 2 hour stint on the motorway so not really stopping so i think this would be ideal economy wise and your the 3rd person to say that the performance doesnt seem to suffer so time to the dealership i think and see what they can offer me! I also have no problem with watching the live mpg as its on my Yaris and ive become obsessed with making it more and more fuel efficient! (gone from 30mpg from previous owner to 48.9 which was 51 in the summer) Can i ask did you guys get the maxi dot? think that looks like a good piece of kit and will probably get it and any other extras you would get?

I am also 6 ft 1, 100kg and find the Fabia big enough for me.

I have the estate version and the maxi dot came with the 2010 cars - no HHC. You get average live mpg and average mpg, option 1 current trip option 2 all trips between resets plus other bits. The options you can have will differ if you get the estate or hatch. The number of extras for the Greenline II estate is very limited.

I decided to forget the metallic paint and went for rear parking sensors and rear electric windows.

Maxi dot came as STD on mine

Maxi dot came as STD on mine

Is that the black with white letters one or the green LCD type screen.

Hi mate, my understanding is the black screened one with white writing is the maxi-dot. The yellowy/greeny display is just the standard didplay.

And mine, which arrived in January. Bu it not (what I call) a proper maxi-dot.

The version fitted to other cars has a lot more functions.
