Vrs Foaming At The Mouth!

Featured Replies

Hi

Can anyone recommended some "headlight washer" friendly screen washer fluid. I'm currently using Halfords Premium Pre-mixed (the 5 pink stuff in 5L bottles) screen wash trouble is every time the headlight washers kick-in I'm left with a nasty soapy foamy mess all over the front wings and wing mirrors. I'm guessing the premium screen wash is too soapy in its formula and the pressure of the headlight washers is causing it to foam up even more.

Any recommendations.

Thanks

Dan

I get exactly the same problem, and I use the official VAG fan-jet approved screen wash. It wasn't such a problem when I first got the car, but with the freezing weather I've been using a fairly strong mix so I'm guessing that the factory put in a much more diluted mix. It's probably got a lot to do with the jets introducing air into the fluid causing it to foam (much like a snow foam lance works)

I use some Comma screenwash that seems like neat meths when you pour it. It did well in the Autoexpress test a while back, and doesn't foam at all. It's also fit for very low (-40c from memory) depending on concentration.

Just read Comma does All Seasons which is fit for -26c and Xstream which freezes at -65c! That must be neat meths!

Another vote for Comma Screen Wash..Works well in mine and minimises the mess on the wings and bonnet

And the Lidl stuff does not cause foaming either. Currently diluted 2:1. Supposed to be good for -60C or so undiluted.

Earlier in the year the fluid was freezing on to the cooler parts of the headlights.

Another vote for the Lidl stuff. It is fan jet friend, doesn't foam much and costs only £5 for 5L  Neat it is rated down to -60º, diluted 2:1 the rating drops (or should that be raises?) to -20º.

You could also look at adjusting the timing for the headlamp washers. Or set them to a high value so they don't come on at all if you prefer.

It's possible for the pre-FL, so there'll be an FL way. It'll be a different procedure as the coding for headlamp washers has moved modules...
