Where Is Canbus Located?

Featured Replies

I've got a new CANBUS to fit to my '07 vRS but I need to confirm where the heck it's located! And is it a big job swapping it out? I've searched on here but can't find a definitive answer (though maybe my search terms were dodgy!)

Any help much appreciated

Thanks

Give me a ring Ed , not sure what you looking for , do you mean the obd2 socket ? to plug a diagnostic tool into , if so its under the dash by the steering column mate

Sorry...bad terminology on my part! Yes I meant the CAN gateway

On mine (2007MY 56 plate) it was behind the glove box, iirc 7 torx screws, 2 nuts and 10 minutes and your done.

However on another members 2008MY 57 plate it was behind the steering column, more of a pain but still not difficult.!

Thanks for the link - it mentions:

on a 2005MY it will be behind the glove box, iirc 2007 on they relocated it, which makes it a bitch to get to!

Do you know if the location did change on a 2007 model? And if so where it is now?

Thanks

My best guess is the OP is trying to replace his CAN gateway.

Try this:

Thanks for the info...

Mine is a March '07 model so hopefully it will be behind the glovebox! :)

Fingers crossed mate, its only a 5 minute job to drop the glove box, fyi there is a torx screw behind the plastic end cover accessible when you open the door.

When the glovebox is removed be careful not to damage the airbag connector, the gateway is just up to the right, facing the wrong way so you can't see the writing!

Pretty certain it'll be in the easy location. You'll see it straight ahead, being held in.

Don't just swap them without taking a note of your current coding with VCDS though! You'll risk SEVERELY mucking things up....

Thanks for the warning!

Is it poss to do a dump of your current coding to disk? Or is it a case of manually making a note of them all?

I think the latter mate, don't risk it.

Totally agree. Take screenshots of each section of the coding, and also write it down :)

Not worth taking a chance.
