A Couple Of Question

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

a ) Does the pressure plate-clutch disc-flywheel-bearing are the same for all Skoda Octavias and MK4 4 cyl Jetta?

b ) Can 280mm brake disc be fitted on 256mm stock setup without changing the complete hub? FS-III setup is 256 mm right?

thanks for your help =)

a) Dunno.

B) You'll need the right caliper carrier brackets, but there are plenty of Octys about with FS-III calipers and 280mm ventilated discs (and some are even on 15" wheels).

Thanks for your answer, but I can't understand it right.

I have FS-III, and been told that those are 256 mm, I want 280 mm, but don't understand about the carriers, they are not supposed to be directly mounted to the spindle as they are one piece for the 256-280?

The FS-III calipers have the carrier integrated into the hub. If you want to go for a bigger setup, say a 288/312 setup, you will need to replace the hubs, as the bigger kits use the FN3 calipers which use separate carriers.

You should be able to use a 280mm setup with no problems though.

Thanks for your reply. It's a 1.6, so I think 280 will be just fine, so just buying the 280mm rotos will do the trick?

Next I need to sort out the rear drums =(, but that requires more savings...

Anything about transmision?

Not sure about the clutch plate, but I have just been looking into the brakes, and it turns out you can't put 280mm discs on 256mm hubs. There isn't enough space. The caliper and pads are the same though. You may as well go for a 288 or 312mm setup if you are going to change the hubs.

Good guide here:

Yeap, it will cost just the same if anyway I need the hubs... =(, well so sad i'll need to put the bigger ones =)...

I'm asking about the transmision because I like a clutch kit that sells ECStuning, with light flywheel, pretty cheap (305.00 USD) and cause I'm in Panama shipping will be easy, the only that dont helps is that they don't have skodas there, and i'm not sure if it will fit...

Thanks for the help on the brake =)

I've had an idea about the clutch kit now. Quote your engine and gearbox codes (3 letter codes like BAM) to the supplier, and ask them if that combination is accomodated by their kit.

Done, but they just said that they are not sure if it will fit my transmision (wtf)

Does anyone have access to both the AKL and a 1.8T, TDi or 2.0 setup and compare if they are similar?

btw, this is what I want to buy http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-Jetta_IV--2.0/Drivetrain/Clutch/Stage_1/ES125/

It's for MK4 Jettas/Golf but here in my country is as close as I can get to Skoda performance parts
