Sony Ericsson W995 help please

Featured Replies

Has anyone got a Sony Ericsson W995 phone?. Recently bought one from a fellow brisky and have managed to get everything working except Google Maps.

I have used Sony update to bring the phone to the latest S/W level but this did not fix the problem

Am trying to test this using my home WiFi, can access the internet and search etc, can switch GPS on and it finds my location in Lat/Long.

First Question has anyone been able to do this or do I need a subscription internet service for the phone – Sony Support seem to infer it should work with home WiFi but nothing they suggest has worked.

When selecting Google Maps, I get a ‘Loading Google Maps vs3.0’ screen then it asks for ‘Internet Settings’ and I select Allow Local Conn 'yes' and press Select. Sometimes nothing happens but if I press the ‘Back’ key I get locked into a loop of asking me to select connection and a screen saying I need a network connection then after a few loops the phone goes blank and wont do anything for a couple of minuets then appears to reboot into Phone Mode.

Other times after selecting Google Maps I see a flash screen saying ‘Terms and Conditions, Loading please wait’ - and then I get pushed back to the Internet Settings screen and then pressing ‘Back’ I am shown the ‘Terms and Conditions screen, Loading please wai’t and it just stays there unless I press back several times when it turns into ‘Decline’ and get pushed back to Location Services.

Either of these loops happens seemingly randomly and no matter how long I wait for the Terms and Conditions to load.

As said Internet searches and Web navigation work fine to my home WiFi and I get a good GPS lock. Every thing else on the phone works fine, camera, music, video etc.

Any help/guidance would be much appreciated as I am off to Portugal soon and will probably need some map type help.
