time to kill the goose that laid the golden egg.....

we all know the VAG have donated the parts and research to make Skoda what it is today -

but who feels its now being treated as a little kid.. we know VW can offer current cars and future cars with so much more...-

for a price - but thats what an options list is for...

Well, Skoda were pretty fantastic, but communist rule made it uncompetitive and it fell

a long way behind. VAG have done a fantastic job of bringing them up-to-date, but at

the cost of making them another VAG company. So I have no idea which way to vote! :D

Rob.

I voted for they are protecting their other brands.

I mean who'd want a 4x4 Octavia with 225bhp for

I think Skoda deserves a lot more autonomy. Consider their history:-

Up to WW2, Skoda cars were fit to rub shoulders with Rolls Royce, Bugatti, etc (IIRC Hispano Suizas were built by Skoda).

Like it or not, they turned out quality products for the Wehrmacht when Czechoslovakia was occupied.

After the war, when they were under strict control from Moscow, they still managed to turn out products which beat the opposition in their home markets (i.e. Ladas, Wartburgs, Yugos, Polonez's, and the odious little Trabants). In fact, Skodas were one of the few Comecon cars to make it into the West's market.

Now they've entered the mainstream again. However, VAG sems to be having trouble positioning Skoda in its portfolio - it's competing (and winning) against VW in the "good, solid, value for money" sector, and at the same time it's giving SEAT a hard time at the sporty end of the range.

Perhaps it's time to position Skoda away from VAG...

In my oppinion Seat is better treated by the VAG then Skoda.

I know that Skoda has better tradition then Seat in makeing cars throughout the years and VAG should concider in makeing Skoda more like Audi.

Robust, quality, sport at a fair price. Not as expensive as Audi.

Now, I don't want Skoda to be completely independant from VAG as VAG could supply Skoda whith all the latest in car-technology.

The sad part of VAG is that they don't give Skoda "heavier" or "sportier" engines, like i.e. TT 225bhp, TT V6 250bhp, V8 4.2L engines.

One or two new model programs (Tudor, Montreux for example) and the Quattro option.

Cheers,

FD

thanks for the input guys... nice to see we all have similar views..

wonder what vw owners think of skoda?

In my experience they fall into two categories:

1. Those who have been given a VW as a company car - couldn't care less!

2. Those who paid an extra

My views, are that skoda should still be part of vag. Although they should be allowed to function independantly and not have what can/cannot be designed / built by them dictated.

A typical example would be the tudor, designed by skoda. then it would seem pinched by VW. Skoda designed it, so they should build it.

This brand definition thing seems to have got out of hand, even more so since the current head of VAG took over.

Skoda has only recently started to develop a possitive image here, it would seem VAG want to destroy that again by making them go more downmarket.

Well said Manny...

having said that theres only one VAG brand that hasn't show a w12 supercar based concept... maybe just maybe at the next show...?

Come on VAG show us you care!

It hearts me to say this but it seems that VAG has this strategy:

The Skoda is a "stock car" let alone from the VAG.

Can't the Mercedes-Benz Group buy Skoda? :D

not MB - pls no..

build quality would drop... trust me...

we would then get tuning by brabus.. who wanted 7.5k for cams chip and exhaust on my clk?

no thanks...

If Daimler-Benz had bought Skoda , the Octavia may well have been based on the Carisma floorpan instead of the Golfs....anyone having nitemares yet?? ;)

I'm very sorry for bringing it up guys, I was only joking around ;)

I like the Skoda platforms as they are right now, so You get no argue from me.

Now, I may like Mercedes a lot but I was just tired with VAG's Skoda-strategy (that's why the spontanious comment came).

I'll never talk about it anymore.

The problem is, Skoda are starting to outdo VW on build quality and Value For Money, and VAG dont like it.

My personal feelings is that its because the Czech's take more pride in their work than the Germans do. German workers have had it too easy for too long, and now its catching up with them.

VAG should let Skoda play on a level playing field, and i reckon they'd do very well. ;)

I've just had a choice of a new company car & opted for an Octavia vRS over a Golf, Leon Cupra or anything by Audi. The main reason for this was value for money & low company car tax. I can't believe VAG are treating Skoda so badly when you get more options on an Octavia vRS than on most VW's or Audi's & cheaper company car tax than the same engined Seat Leon Cupra.

I've had to put up with loads of stick from work, with some even going as far to say i should be sacked for choosing a Skoda!!!

At least i know i've got a wickedly fast motor & i'm not paying through the nose for it!!!

I've reached that time of life where some people expect to see me driving a Skoda, and SWMBO's Felicia fits the image nicely whan I drive it. The 4X4, on the other hand, gives me a real kick and, IMHO, is greater than the sum of its parts. Lift the bonnet and you could be looking at an Audi or VW (I don't go a bundle on the SEAT), and I delight in teasing acquaintances who have paid far more for the same bits with a different badge stuck on the front. I just hope that VAG will continue to give Skoda reasonable access to the VAG parts bin, and that Skoda in turn will continue to make cars like the Octavia, Fabia and Superb to the same standard as my 4X4. I hope you are all as pleased with your Skodas as I am with ours. :D

Absolutely - I love the way that my Octavia raises its middle finger to all the drivers of overpriced overated machines - I know im a hypocrite having lined the pockets of other prestige brands over the past 12 years of driving.

I cant wait to finish playing with my RS and proving a few more things on the track;)

I really do miss 4WD on my vRS :)

I hope that Skoda will make a 4WD Octavia RS in the future.

That is if VW will allow it.

I hope they make it RWD.. then we can really chase BMW and Merc!

Nah, the RWD is old technology. It's better to stick with Haldex 4WD ;)

Oh, I forgot to mention that I also would like a 6-gear box in future Octavia RS.
