Weird brake noise…

Featured Replies

This has been going on and off for a few weeks now. Since I had it serviced at the local stealers strangely :S

I think it's the brakes as it only squeals when the car's in motion, but it seems worse inside the car than outside. When I lower the window there's no loud noise and no one's stood staring at me as I move along, as I suspect some people might if it was making a racket.

The noise is literally a low pitch squealing but it fills the cabin, and comes and goes like a buckled wheel on a bike, if you see what I mean. Like a whup, whup, whup, which speeds up as the car does, but sometimes it's constant. Some days there's no sound at all??? And you can't hear it at any speed over, say, 40mph.

The outside pad seems to be touching the disc slightly when stationary, but then I'm sure it always did. I'm pretty sure it is the brakes, but is it because the caliper isn't disengaging properly or does it just need new pads, or discs and pads? Seems odd that it's only started after a service and MOT.

The brakes work fine by the way, but the noise is causing concern to me and SWMBO.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

Why is this not in New Content? (just a little test to see if a reply shifts it)

Maybe give them a good stomping on

Could be crag on the discs ??

A few 70 -0's on a quiet Mway should do the trick, strap down all loose items though.

Ahhh new content ....give it a chance lol

It's showing in new content now

Cheers. I still can't see it though :'(

Think I'll have to jack the wheel and check the pads properly when I've got a minute, which should be some time next Christmas :wonder:

Maybe when the garage fitted the discs they didn't clean the hub properly, and the disc has excessive run out?

The discs were fitted about 18 months ago and they've never made noises before. I reckon it's a stone or something, but then again, new discs and pads wouldn't hurt :)

On the other hand, I have to get a new steering gaitor fitted at some point, and the insurance, and a new baby are both due in April, so maybe not
