Tyre Wear - Interim report

Featured Replies

Since the weather is cold, nasty and windy, and the garage warm and cosy, as well as well lit, decided for a major interior clean-up and general check-up.

44,000 km - 27,500 miles- on the odometer. About 50/50 with the Goodyear Eagle Ultrgrip winters and the summer tyres. 8 mm left on the back and 7 mm left on the fronts. Projecting this out to the end of winter tyre use in another two months, I expect the numbers to be 7 and 6 mm when they get changed out for the sumer wheels.

Exchanging front and back, the conclusion is that they are good for at least one more winter (the 3rd) and still be within the recommended minimum 4 mm left at the end of the next winter season. That means 30,000 km+ or 20,000 miles on the winter tyres.

I have been very impressed with their performance, both in the most crirtical area of cold and wet as well in cold and warm dry performance and in all manner of snowy and slippery conditions. They are slightly noisier than the summer tyres at low speed, but not at high speed.

At the same time, they have the same pressure in them as when they were last filled - 4 months ago - 34 PSIG or about 2.3 bar.

The wear pattern is a little more rounded at the fronts - as you would expect from cornering forces, but even inside to outside, concluding that the pressure is OK for my load and driving style.

I have to admit that I am impressed and very happy with this original choice.
