Fuel Flap

Featured Replies

Is their a car from the Fabia MK2 range somewhere in the world that has a central locking fuel flap ?

I really don't think our range topper should only have a key operated fuel cap

I cant be sure but maybe it is like the octavias when you sett off ( or central locking) the flap by a bar which slides into that circle on the flap, leave it ajar then lock the car you will see it slide out. My dealer at the time did not know this in 2006

Is pretty poo that the Fabia doesnt have a locking fuel flap. Real evidence of cost cutting but i'll put up with it to have a 178hp hot hatch estate car!

The flap doesnt lock BUT the cap does!

I'd be very surprised if you could adapt any other fuel flap as the locking mechanism is normally built into the car itself. The chances of getting everything to mount, line up and work, whilst drilling a hole for the locking pin to pass through from the locking motor, would be very slim and not really worth the hassle...

Oddly, the polo doesn't appear to have a "cap", but has something called a "throttle control element - fuel filler flap". It looks like a locking mechanism... not sure why it would be linked to the throttle though, as opposed to the central locking or abs sensor (for locking when on the move).

What I was hoping was someone knew of a non UK version, somewhere in the world that has a locking flap operated via the central locking. It could then be retro fitted if we had the part numbers for it.

I know of know Fabias that have ever had this feature

Whats wrong with locking cap? :giggle::giggle:

12 years of VW & Skodas and they all had a central locking fuel cap.

You get to the petrol station with the Mrs and kids in the car, you get out, go to the filling cap only to remember this "modern car you have just bought" needs a KEY TO OPEN IT. So you go back into the car and take the keys out of the ignition.

Should have been an option on the spec sheet :p

Have to agree - really odd that it's not standard.

I guess that's why we pay £4K less than the equivalent VW though.

I couldn't see anything on ETKA, either the Polo, Fabia or Ibiza I'm afraid. Best option could be an Audi A1 if you wanted to keep it "in the family"

The latest polo does have a central locking fuel flap the locking cap on the fabia is a real pain.....who's going to be first with the retro fit lol

You should have taken the keys out of the ignition in the first place...NEVER leave the keys in the ignition while filling up especially if you forget to take them out when going to pay. So there you have Skodas thinking it's a far more secure system than the self locking flap.

exactly what i was thinking. And a locking filler cap is going to be a lot harder for someone to break in to, to steal your fuel, whereas a locking flap could be prized open, or cracked in half if they are plastic.

Can't you two read :wonder:

My Mrs and kids are in the car, you wanna take my Mrs on ? :giggle:

wouldnt doubt the ability of a mrs. i do think its better having a secure cap rather than a flap that can be bent out of place easily.
