How do I remove the carpet trim in an estate with a CD changer?

Featured Replies

Evening all,

My centre rear brake light is on dimmly at the moment and I have tracked it down to a leaky washer pipe behind the left hand boot trim (reduced flow on the washer, only occurs after a wash/wipe and slight dampness on the CD Changer).

I tried having a go at removing the trim to get to the pipe but got stuck when it came to the cd changer rack! It is in their solid and I can't see how to get round it?

Do I remove the rack or can I do it without removal? Is the estate trim any different to the hatches?

Any help and piccies would be much appreciated.

Can anyone help?

Hi

There is a very good guide hereon how to remove boot trim in an estate to facilitate the instalation of a towbar.

It includes pictures.

As you can see in this picture CD Changer the CD changer traps the carpet/trim with black plastic rivets either side. They are a push fit into the fixing hole behind. They have a central plastic pin which is inserted after fitting to expand the prongs at the back of the rivet fixing it to the hole.

You can horse it out with pliers or similar, or ...

The best way to remove is to use a thin metal punch /screwdriver to push the central pin right through the rivet into the space behind. The rivet will then pull out easily allowing the trim to come past the CD changer.

Once you have found the pin you can re-use the rivet!

No need to take the Changer out to change the pipe or joint.

Once the trim is out you will see the washer fluid pipe to the right of the CD changer above the wheel arch. There is a joint there leading to the tailgate. The pipe itself is buried in the wiring loom but is available as a separate spare part. Mine had been before I bought it.

I just wanted to say thanks for this posting.

I had the usual lack of rear wash on my Octy II estate - I say loads of messages saying that it was probably just that the pipe had popped off and to simply push it back on. However after several hours of trying to prise bits of trim off I was getting desperate and tearful. I was even to be seen in a certain chain store looking at the Haynes manual for the Mk I (if they'd had one for the Mk II I would have bought it!), but there didn't seem to be any assistance there either! But Friendlyfire's link took me to a document which had all the details I needed, pictures to encourage me to be a bit more forceful when I was about to give in and everything I needed to know to get it sorted. As a bonus, I was also able to get at the boot light which had blown a bulb and it was a two-minute job to change that once I had the trim loose!

Thanks guys, I couldn't have managed without you.
