Skoda approved warranty

Featured Replies

Hello all, from puppet pirate but please help

A beautiful black 2006 vRS 1.9 TDi 130 is the beast I have agreed to buy, putting a deposit down of £500 with an Approved used Skoda dealer.

I'm offered a 6 month warranty - the car being a 2006 (under 6 years old) and having done 65888 miles with a FSH.

I consider extending the warranty then see the Skoda website, which says I should get a 12 month warranty on such a car anyway. When I look for the warranty terms and conditions I can only find the new manufacturer warranty brochure, not the approved warranty: The Skoda website refers to this warranty for used cars under 72,000 miles and under 6 years old.

My Question: Can anyone provide a link to these terms and conditions or the site of the warranty Company who can do so? I have left this enquiry with Skoda on their email web form but I am not confident of an early reply.

Hi and welcome, I would get one from warranty direct far more comprehensive and horror stories on here of the skoda "Approved" one being worthless. It is just an insurance, not a skoda gb one. A guy on here had it and the waterpump failed wrecking his engine even though it had just been serviced and he had to threaten the dealer and skoda gb with court action before any action was taken

Thanks Bluvrs2

Seeing as there's been trouble with the Skoda warranty (how recent?) and as I've no reply from their website as to the Terms and Conditions, I'd better go to Warranty Direct as you suggest. I'd read their terms - their main "get out clause" is that they won't cover pre-existing faults: so their "Wear & Tear" guarrantee is qualified (it doesn't apply for the first 90 days anyway). Then I'll need to lodge an RAC report on the car prior to taking out the warranty to prove pre-existing condition - £163. Or I could go to that other warranty Co endorsed by Quentin Wilson that do this pre-warranty check although my quote was like £700! for one year.

YOu are fine if you take it out before your current cover expires then you are save no 90 day wait ( the post was about a month ago)

Thanks bluvrs2 - I'd take out that warranty-wise policy 30 days before the expiry of the Skoda approved one. However I won't be going through Skoda at all if they do not publish the Terms and Conditions before they expect me to sign up!

Here's my enquiry to Warranty Wise - Naive of me to have paid a deposit as it turns out -

"this is a 2006 skoda Fabia vrs that I've agreed to buy April 1st 2011. The seller is an approved Skoda dealer offering a 12 month warranty that I could extend. The car, I'm told has FSH though the record is on the dealer's computer, with the book stamped for the last two services at 37000 and 63000 miles - presumably at another garage. The car will be given the Skoda Approved used checks and MOT and the service book brought up todate with the earlier computer service record marked up. I cannot find Skoda's Approved Used Warranty Terms and Conditions. If I apply to you for cover should I wait till near the expiry of their 12 month Warranty or let the two run together accepting your "sharing liability" condition? In any event would you need time to inspect the vehicle beforehand. I am worried that pre-existing faults might not be covered especially in view of the mileage between the last 2 services as they were 7000 and 3000 miles late by the recommended schedule. I'd not like to buy any warranty and find this to be some pre-existing material failure, which avoids the policy. Please advise."

If I get no reply, this email enquiry is nevertheless giving them constructive knowledge of the car's pre-existing condition. If they say they'd not insure the vehicle under these circumstances then I'd need to ask Skoda's warranty provider the same question (as they must be second choice) and if their's is a negative reply: well the car had better not fail as otherwise it is rejection of the car and demand for a refund from the dealer (if in the unlikely event it fails pretty soon), and otherwise damages for the cost of a full repair for putting the car into the contracted condition.
