Looking to get a Superb

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have been looking into getting a Superb.

I currently have a Saab 9-3 Sports Saloon with a Hirsch ECU upgrade and Hirsch tuned supension putting out around 230bhp and 350NM but due to the impending new arrival could do with something a little bigger and more economical. I commute 70 miles a day motorway and town and could do with some comfort.

I have been looking and a manual TDI 130 PD seems to tick the right boxes but I don't know what trim level to be looking at, Elegance with leather would be nice but not too sure about the plastic wood. How comfy are the fabric seats, is the comfort a good level of trim? How well do the interiors wear?

What colour is best for a superb? I quite like black / dark grey at the moment. Probabally looking around a pre 2005 model.

All advice appreciated, many thanks.

Dark grey like mine. :smirk:

Welcome Dave, the Comfort trim is very well specced - and as much as anyone would elver 'need', the Elegance gains the extra's like electrically adjustable seats (leather) which IMO are essential if you have any back problems?

5K could get you into a Edition 100 these are even higher spec than the Elegance and do not have the wood trim either, the only thing that stopped me going for one is they are only available in black, but if that's an option you are happy with then they are a lot of car for the money.

Whatever you go to look at make sure the car has not suffered from 'water ingress', all MKI Superb's WILL suffer from it unless the bungs in the plenum chamber are removed and the pollen filter housing has been resealed. Do a search on here it has been covered many times.

Hi Dave, I had a Comfort spec one, and my first memory of it was the 200 mile drive home in it, after about 20 miles I had adjusted to the body roll on tight motorway exit's, and finally when getting home it hadn't felt like 200 miles at all, more like a run to the shops, make no mistake, ppl will stick their noses up at this car, but those who own one will be able to tell you best, and that the car just becomes a fond friend in the end, you pay with the cornering, but you gain with the comfort and this ain't no Mondeo feel factor.

Wooah!! That Edition 100 is a seriously good looking car.

If you can get a decent Edition 100 I would go for it. With the 1.9TDi motor it is the best of the Mk1's by a mile IMO. I have a 55 plate 2.5TDi Elegance but I would have been better off buying the 1.9 Edition 100 long term.
