VAG COM help required North East England

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

i wonder if anyone can help me.

Firstly, I know that Ross Tech have staff monitoring forums for people circulating/requesting illegal copies of Vag com, this is NOT such a request.

I bought a non-Ross Tech cable about 5 years ago, got it working and used it for about 3 years, well pleased with it, however the lap top that i was then running has died and in the mean time I'd had a company car so didn't need the cable. I then went to use the cable again last week, downloaded that latest version of VCDS lite and VCDS 10.6 and cannot get software to connect with cable in either case. It says Port status ok Device not found

A little background

The version that i used all those years ago was I think 409.1, does anyone one know of a reason why a cable will work with 409.1 but not the newer version? I seem to recall speaking to the chap i got the cable from and although it is USB it had to be set to a com port in Vag Com, it has written on the OBD2 connector HEX CAN but I also recall he said that it wasn't HEX CAN

I have tried installing Vag com on 3 different computers, my netbook, my desktop (i know it won't reach the car, it was just to test the software/cable) and an old Toshiba laptop running windows 98.

Rightly or wrongly I see the following possibilities

1. The cable is Fubared

2. The cable is incompatible with newer versions

3. I have some sort of set up or Driver issue

What I would like is to see if there is someone in the North East who has a working copy of VAG COM using a non Ross-tech cable so that we could start by perhaps trying my cable on their set up or their cable on mine and then take it from there. I will of course come to them

Many Thanks

Frank

if youve tried to update the software then plain and simple youve blown the cable.. and it will not work again .. well not as it did before...

google VAG 704 repair... after youve done the repair it will show as a shareware version...

you should be able to read control modules but not program them ...

for the price of a licensed cable with support its a no brainer but to purchase an orginal ross tech cable.... around 220+vat.. on ebay there are sellers still selling not licensed versions for £50. but you cant update and you cant go on the net.. i mean you cant use your PC/Laptop on the net...if you do then youve blown the cable again with no come backs...

:-)
