new twist on electric windows

Featured Replies

RE long running discussions on electric windows failure. After problems for 2 years, I found yesterday, after trying another 'reset', that when the windows stopped working AGAIN, I put the key in the drivers door, turned it to lock and there was a dull thud sound from the door, getting back in the car I found the windows were working again.

Anyone any ideas, perhaps it is not the convenience unit but some electrical 'contact' to do with the locking.

Any thoughts would be welcomed as I don't relish forking out £200 ish for a convenience unit replacement just to have the 'fault' return. I have a 2007 (07) Fabia 1.9tdi Elegance done 12000 miles. Thanks.

if you hold the key in the lock position the windows will auto matically go up. If you hold the key in the unlock position they automatically go down. Its probably this happening on your car. Could be an intermittant fault in the lock mech?

Any idea what the movement is that causes the quiet 'thud' sound when the key is turned to lock position, this is after the car has already been locked so, theoretically, there should be nothing left to activate??

Its activating the window motor to push the window up although its already up/ The same thud can be heard if you sit in the car with the windows up and pull either switch up.
