Really?! My vRS has been sat at the dealer for nearly 3 weeks waiting for its '11' plate, my dealer had no problem with this :wonder:

i think you need to remind your dealer, and for that matter suk, just exactly who the customer is. They may want ot hit sales targets for the month, but when you consider how long you have to wait for your car, it is a small price to pay. Perhaps if they could actually supply cars when people want them you wouldn't be put in this position.

Just read the small print on the back of my order form, see if yours is the same. At serial 5 it clearly states that the customer shall pay for the goods within 14 days of notification that the goods have been completed for delivery. So if you were told on the 17th Feb, then by my reckoning, that means you do not have to pay for the car until the 3rd March.

You could also argue about what 14 days actually means, such as 14 working days which are typically known as Monday to Friday (sorry, not trying to be clever here though it sounds bloody pompous) and therefore you have almost three calendar weeks, but i am sure this wont wash. Oh just had a thought, your dealer wants you to take delivery on the 27th Feb, that sound like 10 days to me. I wonder if ithey are trying to turn two working weeks into 10 days?

And finally, you could always pay for the car on the 27th but arrange for first registration and delivery on the 1st March. And if all else fails try getting some additional extras such as free servicing, future MOT's (appreciate that is three years away), full tank of petrol or one of those professional detailing services they like us to take for the inconvenience of having to wait so long and to recognise what may be lost in resale value.

And just one more thing, check out serial 3 (a and b ) if the same as mine they may actually be in breach of contract themselves. if so tell the dealer you are going to have a word with trading standards.

And finally, and i really mean it this time call SUK yourself to make sure it is not just the dealer spinning you a line.

BTW, i am not a lawyer, but if it were me i would try everyone of the above to get what i want.

i should also have said, whilst i have elected to take the car sat in my dealers showroom rather than wait the three or four months for delivery, i have had no problem delaying delivery to the beginning of March, and at a very healthy price as well. I even got them to lock the car up and leave it in the showroom

Good points Jerry. :strong:

Hope you get your 11 plate.

What ever happens, enjoy the car and pictures please :)

Got a personal 11 plate also, but delivery after 01/03/11 had already been agreed.

Will post picks once i get it also.

Just looked at my Order Form.

It says

' If you fail to take and pay for the goods within 21 days of notification they are available for delivery we may treat the contract as cancelled and keep any deposit paid '

However

' when we accept a motor vehicle as part payment ........ when we advise you your goods are ready for collection you must delivery your used vehicle to us within 14 days ... '

Independently there is a ruling that any vehicle built to a customer order must be registered within 14 days (I think) of arrival in the UK.

However given you can legally drive of the forecourt at 00:01 on the first of the month surely there is a period at the end of a month where a car can be registered but be treated as if registered the first day of the next month.

I've just been told today my car is built and awaiting shipping so no issue having an 11 plate. Indeed when I ordered last November I stipulated I wanted 11 plate so the order form states ' delivery date TBC March / April ' and reg number ' 11 '

I phoned suk this morning, got a man who listened to my issues and agreed i should have an 11 plate as suk has changed from 10 days to 14 days after delivery to dealer, a fact that tha suk advisor i got yesterday had totally denied. this evening a call from dealer confirming this. Glad i found Briskoda website and pursued the matter!

I'm really pleased you have got what you want, and what you deserve. Lets face it, on a 60 plate the resale value will be less than if it were on an 11, even if first registration is only a day or two apart. Enjoy !!!!!!!

Cant see what all the fuss is about, put a private plate on the car, this causes no end of personal amusement, specially when taking the SUK free 7 day insurance,
