Starter Motor swap guide?

Featured Replies

My starter motor has started sticking for an extra second, I would like to remove and refit so I was wondering if there a specific guide to do this?. I remember seeing one for a VW but don't want to get stuck halfway through....oh and is it an easyish job to do?.

.

Pretty simple

Just remove the airbox and possibly battery for access

You'll need a socket set

Hi,

I had mine replaced bought one from nemisis on ebay for my 1.4 16v Elegance for £64.50 a new part not a refurb. My local garage fitted it and quoted me an hours labour, on collection Steve the manager said it had taken longer but would only charge me for the hour. He said they had to move the gear linkage due to the lenght of the bolts and that it has to come out from below hence why I got them to do it. My car now starts great with no squealing noise due to the lazy return, I hope that helps the Haynes manual I have for the car made it sound so easy not so for a home DIY job.

I did it on my drive on my pd130 golf

Didnt need to take any linkages off

Fabia may differ

Hi

I have used the same garage for 18 years and trust them with my life. Steve the manager is a very good friend and the garage never over charges and has never messed up or let me down. If he says they had to move the gear linkage to get the starter motor out then I can assure you there is no other way. Even he was suprised they had to do it.

Can anyone else comment who have done it themselves, whether you do have to remove the gear linkage?.

Thanks.

Just a bump as I am keen to make a start :)

Tbh i cant see you needing to remove linkage as engine and gearbox were the same on the pd130 golf

Was close to the linkage but with the correct tools its possible!

Just take the battery and air box off, also the under tray. bit fiddly not hard though.
